So, let's talk about why sound work isn't the same as art.
To make art requires you to be true to yourself. The moment you decide to do things differently, adjust your art because it might be more popular that way, you are not true to yourself anymore, and this is where art ends.
Art means not to do the absolute least and get away with it, but giving all you can give. If others like it, that's great; if they don't, it doesn't matter at all. Art is expressing yourself and giving it all you have.
Sound work is a very different story. Sound work is a service to others. We can read in your adverts that you offer relaxation, healing, release, and all sorts of miraculous stuff, which can not be provided by anyone or anything without, because all these things are within processes.
Our service is to provide the right environment for the within processes to do the work.
It is not sacred healing frequencies, which do some magical trick. You can't buy a shiny instrument with some magical frequency, and think you only need to hit the magic thing and it will miraculously heal everyone. That is complete nonsense and delusional fiction.
The work is done with skill, knowledge, and discipline.
You need the skills to know how to properly play your instruments, so you have full control over the actual sound they produce. You do not let the instrument play you!
The moment you lose control, you are leaving the path.
Then you need the actual knowledge about everything involved in your work. Beliefs are not knowledge!
So many people think believing is enough; just add some good intention, and all will work out. Again, it will end in a disaster.
Discipline is also of high importance, because you need to stay within the boundaries of what you can do to provide the right environment. The moment you leave that rather narrow path, you are failing.
To fail in our work means you are possibly harming others.
So many people call it sound healing, and because the proper knowledge is missing, that phrase is greatly misunderstood.
Sound healing makes people believe that sound would heal them, and a vast majority of the sound workers are fooled this way.
Sound is not healing, because healing is a within process and sound is without. Any kind of medicine is not healing. It is a support, so the self-healing processes can get started by the self. Medicine doesn't even start the self-healing process; it only provides the help, so the self can start the process.
Nothing and nobody external can do that for someone.
The more skilled, knowledgeable, and disciplined you are, the better your service will be.
If you want to be creative, expressive, and let go of any rules, then you should not become a sound practitioner, but an artist instead. Art is free. For art, there are no rules and boundaries; there is no right or wrong in art. In the field of sound work, there is right and wrong, and this is what people must learn, accept, and stay truthful to.
It is wrong to play harshly for a long period, because knowledge about biology and psychology tells us where the limits are. Too loud for too long is causing harm. This is why the "Gong Police" is showing no mercy for such practices. We can not stay silent while watching innocent customers being harmed. There is no way we are going to show tolerance for you leaving the path.
It is like you becoming a nun or a monk. You vowed to that path.
So, it is about time to put your beliefs to the test, take the time and study the knowledge, double-check if you really have the sufficient skills needed to do the work, and constantly remind yourself to stay disciplined.
