People pleasing isn’t a personality trait, it’s a Fawn response triggered by a nervous system that is simply trying to keep you safe. When your body perceives tension or potential conflict, it prioritizes appeasing others to avoid rejection and maintain survival. Understanding this shift moves you out of self-blame, showing that stopping the cycle isn’t about willpower, but about building internal safety so boundaries no longer feel dangerous.
If you are ready to begin rewiring this response, there are many free nervous system regulation tools available on my page to help your body start feeling safe. For those looking for deeper, more personalized support, 1:1 sessions can be booked through the linktree in my profile.

Thoughts spiraling? Feeling trapped in your own head?
When anxiety spikes, your brain looks for a physical boundary to feel secure. Pushing your hands together firmly creates controlled, grounding resistance. When you breathe and release that pressure, you give your body a tangible way to discharge excess stress energy.
This physical shift tells your nervous system that you are safe in this exact space and moment.
Try it:
1. Press your palms together firmly
2. Take one deep breath in
3. Exhale completely as you release the pressure
Save this grounding reset for the next time your mind starts spiraling.

We often carry tension in our bodies without even realising it.

Try this simple somatic check-in throughout your day: pause and say, “Shoulders.” Notice what you feel… and see if you can gently let them drop. Sometimes awareness is the first step towards release. 🤍

Feeling anxious? This is your physical reset button.
Your outer ear contains one of the only places on the surface of your body where a primary branch of the vagus nerve is directly accessible. Gently massaging the inner curve of your ear, the co**ha stimulates the auricular branch of the vagal nerve. Combined with deep breathing, this physical input immediately signals safety to your nervous system and helps bring your heart rate and anxiety down.
Try it:
1. Place your index finger inside the inner curve of your ear (the co**ha)
2. Use gentle, circular motions to massage the area
3. Breathe deeply and slowly as you massage for 30 seconds
Save this quick physical reset for your next anxiety spike

Stuck in a looping thought?
When your mind is racing in circles, trying to talk yourself out of it often keeps you trapped in your head. Taking a deep breath and humming loudly on the exhale creates a gentle physical vibration through your throat and chest.
This acoustic vibration directly stimulates the vagus nerve running past your vocal cords, sending an instant signal of physiological safety to your nervous system and interrupting the thought loop.
Try it:
1. Inhale deeply through your nose
2. Hum loudly and smoothly on the exhale until your lungs empty
3. Repeat 3 times, noticing the sensation in your chest
Save this quick vocal reset for the next time your mind starts looping.

When stress spikes, your lungs build up excess carbon dioxide and the tiny air sacs (alveoli) in your lungs begin to collapse. Taking two quick inhales through your nose, the second one topping off the first, pops those air sacs back open. Following it with one long, slow, loud sigh through your mouth rapidly offloads carbon dioxide and immediately triggers your parasympathetic nervous system.
Try it:
1. Inhale through your nose
2. Sniff in a second short breath at the top
3. Exhale with a long, loud sigh out your mouth
4. Repeat 2-3 times
Save this 10-second breath reset for high-stress moments

Brain fog making it impossible to think straight?
When your mind feels cloudy and overloaded, soft lateral touch can help quiet the brain’s alarm system. Crossing your arms and gently stroking down from your shoulders to your elbows utilizes a somatic technique known as Havening touch.
This gentle, rhythmic movement generates soothing delta waves in the brain, sending a powerful neural signal of safety that allows mental clarity to return.
Try it:
1. Cross your arms over your chest
2. Stroke gently from shoulders down to elbows
3. Repeat slowly with a soft breath
Save this somatic reset for your next brain fog moment.

Your body is not broken.

The reactions, patterns and protective responses you experience often developed for a reason. At some point, your nervous system learned that these responses were necessary to keep you safe — even if they no longer serve you in the same way today.

Somatic work is not about forcing your body to change or fighting against your responses. It is about gently creating enough safety, awareness and connection for your body to learn that it may not need to protect you in the same way anymore.
