Help shape the Digital Inclusion Playbook for health and care in Wales πŸ’»

Everyone should be able to access health and care services in a way that works for them. That's why Digital Inclusion Wales is developing a Digital Inclusion Playbook, and wants to hear from people with a range of experiences and perspectives.

The playbook will provide practical guidance, tools and examples to help make digital health and care services more inclusive for everyone.

The next available sessions to join are:
πŸ“… Exploring What Works - 29 October, 10:00am-11:30am & 10 November, 1:00pm-2:30pm
πŸ“… Shape the Playbook - 3 November, 11:00am-12:30pm & 12 November, 1:00pm-2:30pm

Discussions can also be arranged either on a one on one basis, or with community groups or forums.

Can't get online, can't get by.

For many people, being online isn't a convenience, it's how they access health information, book appointments, manage prescriptions, stay connected and find support.

But what happens when getting online isn't an option?

At Llais, we've heard from people who face barriers because of poor connectivity, a lack of digital skills, affordability challenges, or because digital services simply don't meet their needs.

That's why one of our People's Principles is Access that works for everyone. People told us they want health and social care services that are accessible online, by phone and in person, without barriers caused by digital exclusion.

As services continue to digitise, it's vital that nobody is left behind.

Have digital barriers affected your experience of health or social care? We'd like to hear from you in the comments below πŸ‘‡

At Llais, we believe everyone's experiences matter.

We know that people from different communities can experience health and social care services in different ways. That's why it's so important that we hear from people from all backgrounds and communities across Wales.

Have you, a family member, or someone you care for had an experience of health or social care you'd like to share?

Whether it's something that worked well or something that could be improved, your experience can help us speak up for people and influence positive change.

When more voices are heard, services can better reflect the needs of everyone in Wales.

Shwmae! Su'mae! πŸ‘‹πŸ’š

This Shwmae Day, we're celebrating the Welsh language and reaffirming our commitment to making sure people can engage with us in Welsh if they choose.

At Llais, our Welsh Language Standards help ensure Welsh speakers can access information, services and opportunities through the language that matters to them. But we know that for many people, being able to use Welsh in health and social care is about much more than language.

πŸ’¬ "The staff were lovely, but being able to speak to someone in Welsh would have eased the pain for me."

This is one of the experiences shared with us in our recent report, Spotlight on using Welsh in health and social care services.

People told us that being able to use Welsh helps them feel understood, respected and involved in decisions about their care. Yet experiences remain inconsistent across Wales, highlighting why the Active Offer and strong Welsh-language provision are so important.

As we celebrate Dydd Shwmae Su'mae, we're proud to play our part in promoting and supporting the Welsh language, while continuing to amplify people's voices and call for services that recognise and meet people's language needs.

🎲 Did you know play can help children cope with illness, treatment and difficult experiences?

In the latest episode of The Health and Social Care We Want podcast, Alyson Thomas speaks to Marianne Mannello from Play Wales about why play is a vital part of children's health, wellbeing and recovery.

They discuss how play helps children feel less anxious, build resilience and have a stronger voice in their care, as well as exciting new developments through the Play Well in Wales project.

✨ Since recording this episode, Play Wales and Starlight UK have begun implementing the Play Well in Wales project. Running over two years, the project aims to support a strategic approach to play in healthcare settings across Wales, embedding the Play Well Toolkit within NHS trusts, supporting families and strengthening play-based approaches in children's healthcare.

πŸ“£ People's voices being heard in the Senedd

Last week, we shared evidence with the Senedd's Health and Social Care Committee about the experiences people have told us of cross-border healthcare, including problems with information sharing, differing waiting time arrangements, care coordination and knowing who to turn to when things go wrong.

Today, those same issues were raised with the First Minister during a Senedd plenary session. In response, he highlighted ongoing work to improve information sharing, referral processes and coordination between NHS services in Wales and England.

For many people living in north-east Wales and border communities, healthcare doesn't stop at the border. That's why it's so important that the experiences people share with us help shape discussions about how services work in practice.

The experiences people share with us don't stay with us. They help inform scrutiny, shape national conversations and keep the focus on what matters most to patients and their families. πŸ’™
