Autumn sports are back 🍂

And every year, we see the same thing happen.

People go from not doing much over the summer to suddenly playing football, netball, rugby, hockey… sometimes all within the space of a couple of weeks.

And the body doesn’t always love that jump in workload.

It’s not necessarily that you’re unfit or that something is “wrong” with you. It’s often just that your body hasn’t had to tolerate that particular amount of running, changing direction, kicking, jumping or contact for a while.

Your fitness might be there.

Your motivation is probably there.

But has your body had time to build back up to the demands of your sport?

That’s where those niggles can start to creep in.

A good return to sport doesn’t have to mean avoiding it until you’re “100% ready”. It’s about gradually exposing your body to the things your sport is going to ask of it again.

A little bit more running.
A few more changes of direction.
More load.
More speed.
More of the movements you actually need to perform.

Because being ready for sport isn’t just about feeling fit.

It’s about being prepared for what the sport is going to ask of you.

And sometimes, the best time to think about that is before the niggle starts.

Got a niggle that’s not settling?
Let’s get it looked at before it starts holding you back. Book via the link in bio.

Sometimes the most important part of an assessment isn’t the test itself — it’s explaining what it means.

This patient had experienced clonus during previous neurological testing, but had never been given an explanation. Understandably, seeing the same response again today made him concerned.

Clonus can be a sign of upper motor neurone involvement, but one positive test doesn’t tell the whole story. It needs to be interpreted alongside the person’s history and the rest of the neurological assessment.

A big part of my role as a physiotherapist is not just assessing and treating, but helping people understand what’s happening in their body.

Don’t just assess. Explain. 🤍

MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE.

Exercise is one of the most powerful tools we have for improving health.

In fact, exercise and physical activity are recommended as part of the management or prevention of many common health conditions.

Think about it…

🩸 Type 2 diabetes? Exercise.
❤️ High blood pressure? Exercise.
🧬 High cholesterol? Exercise.
🧠 Mental health? Exercise.
🦴 Osteoporosis? Exercise.
🦵 Arthritis? Exercise.
🫀 Cardiovascular health? Exercise.
🩺 Recovery from injury or surgery? Exercise.

And the list goes on.

That’s because movement doesn’t just train your muscles.

It can improve cardiovascular health, bone strength, blood sugar regulation, mobility, strength, balance, confidence, sleep and mental wellbeing.

But here’s the important bit:

The right exercise matters.

You don’t need to smash yourself in the gym.
You don’t need to run 5km.
You don’t need to be “fit” before you start.

Sometimes the most effective exercise is simply the exercise that is appropriate for where you are right now — and then progressively building from there.

Movement isn’t just something we do when we’re healthy.

Movement is part of how we build, maintain and restore health.

That’s why we believe rehab shouldn’t just be about getting rid of pain.

It’s about helping you move better, get stronger and build a body that can do the things you want it to do.

Movement is medicine. Use it wisely. 💚

Competition day 🙌🏽⛳

There’s something pretty special about seeing an international team competition from this side of the ropes.

Proud to be supporting the Australian Women’s Golf Team this week and incredibly grateful to be part of the experience.

Now the focus shifts from preparation to performance.

Go Australia!! 🇦🇺💚💛

From clinic to international golf 🇦🇺⛳

This week, I’m incredibly excited to be volunteering as a physiotherapist with the Australian Women’s Golf Team at the Women’s PGA Cup at Carden Park.

Physiotherapy plays an important role in helping golfers stay healthy, move well and perform at their best. Supporting opportunities like this is also a small way I hope to contribute to the continued growth and progression of women’s golf.

Proud to combine two things I’m passionate about — physiotherapy and golf.

Let’s go, Australia! 🇦🇺 💛💚💛💚

When did looking after your health become something we have to justify?

We invest in so many things that improve our quality of life but our health is often the thing we put last.

Until something hurts.
Until movement becomes difficult.
Until it starts stopping us from doing the things we love.

Your health is what allows you to enjoy everything else in your life.

So maybe it’s worth asking yourself:
Am I prioritising my health as much as I prioritise the things it allows me to do?

You get one body. One life.
Look after it 🤍
