“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree." Emily Bronte wrote this in her poem "Fall, leaves, fall", and I love it.

Autumn is a gentle reminder that letting go can be a good thing. The trees don't hold onto every leaf, and you don't have to hold onto every task either. I’m learning that myself in my own work.

This idea is linked to Dwight D. Eisenhower, and it became the Eisenhower Matrix. Sort every task into one of four boxes:

Do: urgent and important.
Schedule: important, but not urgent.
Delegate: urgent, but not important.
Drop: neither.

Most business owners I meet are stuck doing the “delegate” box themselves. That’s the box I live in!

Thinking about hiring a VA? Here are 5 questions worth asking before you start.

1. What do you specialise in? Admin, systems, finance, social media? Find the right fit for what you need
2. How will we communicate? Email, WhatsApp or a weekly call. Agree it upfront.
3. How do you keep my data safe? Ask about GDPR and how logins are shared.
4. How do you charge? Hourly, a monthly retainer or set packages.
5. What happens if you're away? Holidays happen, so ask what the plan is.

A good VA will be happy to answer all of these. I always am!

Can you see the wood for the trees? 🌳

Today I jumped on a call with a client and an SEO specialist we’d brought in to do a deep dive into how the business was performing online. Looking at the data, finding the gaps, and working out where to focus next.

And it got me thinking…

As small business owners, we’re so deep in the doing that it’s hard to step back and actually analyse where our time, money, and energy should be going. It can feel really overwhelming, especially when every direction you look, someone’s telling you the answer is another tool or another piece of software.

But sometimes? It starts with a human conversation.
A call. A fresh pair of eyes. Someone who can help you work out where you actually need to be putting your focus before you invest in anything else.

I’m at capacity myself right now, but I always want to point people in the right direction. So I’d love to know.
How do you get clarity in your business?

Do you bring in specialists, or do you go it alone?
Have you found human connection more valuable than any tool or AI for getting strategic focus?
