We are delighted to be attending the Health & Wellbeing Fair on Saturday at Tarporley Community Centre, where we will be joining nearly 30 other businesses and supporters of the care industry.

The event is free, it would be great to see you if you are local to the event.

Capturing a story is only one part of the work.

What happens afterwards matters too.

A recorded memory might become something for a family to keep. It might be turned into a written extract, an audio clip, a short film, a printed piece, a QR code trail, part of an exhibition, or evidence of the difference a community project has made.

The format can change depending on the setting, but the purpose stays the same: to treat the story with care and make sure it can be remembered, shared or used in a way that feels right for the person who shared it.

That is an important part of The Community Story Hub CIC.

We are not just interested in collecting stories. We are interested in helping people, families, organisations and communities make something meaningful from them.

One of the things we believe strongly at The Community Story Hub CIC is that communities do not always need to create something new in order to have stories worth saving.

The stories are usually already there.

They are in the conversations happening after a group activity, around a care home table, at a sports club, in a school project, during a community event, or between family members who have known each other for years but have never quite asked the right questions.

What is often missing is the time, structure and confidence to capture those stories properly.

That is where our work comes in. We help people and organisations create simple, thoughtful ways to ask, listen, record and preserve memories before they are lost or forgotten.

Because sometimes the most meaningful stories are not found by staging something big. They are found by noticing the value in what is already happening.

Charities, CICs and community organisations are often asked to prove the difference they make.

Numbers matter. Reports matter. Outcomes matter.

But sometimes the clearest evidence of impact is a person explaining, in their own words, what changed for them.

A participant talking about confidence. A volunteer describing what they have seen. A family member sharing what support meant. A project lead reflecting on what has shifted in a community.

The Community Story Hub CIC can help organisations capture those voices in a way that is thoughtful, consent-led and useful.

Those stories can support funding, reporting, reflection, celebration and learning.

Most importantly, they help make sure the people at the centre of the work are part of how the work is remembered.

Local history is not only found in old photographs, archive boxes, buildings and dates.

It is also carried in people’s memories.

The shop that is no longer there. The teacher everyone remembers. The club volunteer who gave up every Saturday. The factory, the pub, the estate, the school, the team, the street, the corner where people used to meet.

These memories are part of the story of a place, but they are often the easiest to lose.

One of the things The Community Story Hub CIC can help communities explore is how personal memories can be connected back to local places through audio, video, written stories, QR codes, exhibitions, trails or community archives.

Not to overcomplicate local history.

Just to make sure the human layer does not disappear.

There is something powerful about giving young people permission to be curious.

To ask someone older what school was like for them, what music they listened to, where they used to go, what work they did, what they remember about a place, or what advice they would pass on.

These are simple questions, but they can open up meaningful conversations.

Through The Community Story Hub CIC, we want to support more intergenerational storytelling projects where young people can develop confidence, empathy, listening and digital storytelling skills, while older people and community members have the chance to share memories that might otherwise go unrecorded.

It is not technology for the sake of it.

It is technology being used as a reason to connect.

Memory Makers will always be an important part of our work.

It is the programme most closely connected to older people, dementia, memory loss, care homes, hospices, reminiscence and family legacy work.

But The Community Story Hub CIC has been created as something wider than one programme or one setting.

It is there to support storytelling across families, schools, sports clubs, charities, community groups, care settings, local heritage projects and other organisations where stories, memories and lived experiences matter.

The setting may change, but the purpose remains the same: to help people feel heard, valued and remembered, and to preserve stories that might otherwise be lost.

One of the ideas we are developing through The Community Story Hub CIC is the role of Story Guides.

A Story Guide is not there to interview someone in a formal or complicated way. The role is much simpler than that, but also really important.

It is about helping a conversation happen well.

That means knowing how to ask thoughtful questions, how to give someone time, how to listen without rushing, how to notice the details that matter, and how to treat people’s memories with care.

We see this becoming useful for volunteers, staff, students, family members and community participants who want to help others share and preserve their stories.

Because often the best stories do not come from perfect questions.

They come from someone feeling comfortable enough to start talking.

Not every story needs to be shared publicly.

In fact, many of the stories captured through The Community Story Hub CIC may stay exactly where they belong: with a person, a family, a care setting, a school, a club or a community group.

That matters.

Storytelling work has to be built on trust. People should know where their story is going, who may see it, and whether it is being kept privately or shared more widely.

Sometimes a story might become part of a family keepsake. Sometimes it may help an organisation show the human side of its work. Sometimes, with permission, it may become part of a community project, exhibition, archive or Memory Trail.

But the choice has to sit with the person sharing it.

Preserving stories should never mean taking ownership of them away from the people they belong to.

A lot of what we are building through The Community Story Hub CIC comes back to one simple idea: a proper conversation can do more than people realise.

It can help someone feel listened to. It can bring back a memory they have not spoken about for years. It can give a family something meaningful to keep. It can help a care setting, school, charity, club or community understand the people within it a little more deeply.

It starts when someone is given time, asked with care and listened to properly.

That is the part we want to help more people and communities make space for.
