Braille labelling belongs on food packaging!

Listen to our campaigner Marie on RNIB Connect Radio as she explains why accessible food packaging matters and why we're asking blind and partially sighted people to complete our braille food labelling survey.

If you're blind or partially sighted, or know someone who is, please take part in our survey or share it with others:

The survey closes on 31st October.

Could Braille labelling on food packaging be something that can come in across the UK? Hubert is finding out about the research that helps to build evidence to have this happen.

A truly inspiring evening at Vision Collaboration Scotland: Through Our Lens!

The event brought together people with lived experience of sight loss, MSPs, health and social care leaders, and organisations from across Scotland’s sight loss sector.

We listened to the powerful voices of blind and partially sighted people who shared stories and experiences, shining a light on the urgent need for better sight loss support and vision rehabilitation across Scotland.

Imagine picking up a tin or a packet and having no way of knowing what's inside.

For many blind and partially sighted people, that's the reality every day because most food packaging doesn't include braille labelling. It's frustrating, unfair and can reduce independence.

We are asking blind and partially sighted people to complete our survey and help us show why braille labelling on food packaging matters. The more voices we hear, the stronger the case for change.

Watch our video, complete the survey and share this post to help us campaign for food packaging that works for everyone.

It's National Braille Week!

This week, we'll be sharing information about braille and highlighting our Braille Food Labelling Campaign, which calls for braille on food packaging to help blind and partially sighted people identify products independently and safely.

National Braille Week celebrates braille and raises awareness of the vital role it plays in the independence, education and everyday lives of blind and partially sighted people across Scotland.

Invented by Louis Braille in the 1820s, braille is a tactile code made up of six raised dots in different combinations. Even in today's digital world, it remains an essential tool for literacy, independent learning, privacy and choice.

Find out more about braille 👇

Braille is a tactile system that allows blind and partially sighted people to access literacy by reading and writing. Braille is read by touch, by using the pads of the fingers to feel the letters and symbols. Braille can be written in a variety of ways; using specialist equipment or specific comput...

IVI webinar: New evidence for vision rehabilitation in Scotland

Join us to hear about new evidence showing that vision rehabilitation delivered in Scotland works.

The IVI Scotland Study, carried out by the The University of Melbourne and the Centre for Eye Research Australia for Vision Collaborative Scotland, and funded by Sight Scotland and Thomas Pocklington Trust found gains in independence, wellbeing, mobility and participation in society for both blind and partially sighted adults.

Professor Lauren Ayton and Fleur O’Hare will share the findings in an MS Teams webinar:

11 November 2026 | 8:30 am - 9:30 am

Members of Vision Collaborative Scotland will then give a short presentation, followed by discussion about what the findings mean for policy, practice and future investment in Scotland’s vision rehabilitation workforce and services, as well as implications for policy in other nations.

Find out more and sign up below.

Please share with colleagues and anyone who may be interested in the future of vision rehabilitation.
