Team Talk Thursday: are your coaches spending Friday nights chasing players on WhatsApp?

Training, a match, a team social events - every one of them starts with the same thing: messaging round the group and hoping enough people reply in time.

PitchsidePal's availability polls cover all this, with automatic reminders sent to players before the deadline. So you're not the one doing the chasing.

If you want a clear picture of who's available, injured or unavailable, without sending a single chaser message, this is exactly why we built PitchsidePal.

Team Talk Thursday: Are your club's concussion record still living on paper?

A scrap of paper in a medical room locker, a note on someone's phone, a memory of "yeah, I think he passed the assessment" — that's what duty of care looks like at a lot of clubs right now.

And if it's ever questioned down the line, "I'm pretty sure we did the checks" isn't a record. It's a guess.

PitchsidePal has concussion monitoring built in — a full assessment and recovery checklist logged for every concussion, every time. So your club has clear records showing the right process was actually followed, not just hoped for.

POST‑MATCH MONDAY | Week 5
Every Monday we look back at the weekend just gone and what it tells us about running a club, not just playing the game.

Losing is never fun, but this weekend was a reminder that a defeat rarely means a wasted afternoon. Plenty of teams went into big fixtures missing half a matchday squad and had no choice but to throw inexperienced players into senior action. They may have lost, but every one of those players walked away with something no training session could have given them: real minutes, real pressure, real learning.

What often separates teams in those situations is something simple: being process‑driven rather than results‑driven. Clinical, complete performances don’t appear out of nowhere. They’re the product of weeks of unglamorous work landing on the same day.

Defeat shows you what needs attention. Process is how you actually do the work - every week, not just the week after a bad one. PitchsidePal’s team‑management tools keep training plans, attendance and tactical notes in one place so that work carries through from Monday to Saturday. And instant messaging keeps players, coaches and medics aligned when your best team isn’t always the one that takes the field.

Had a brilliant day at FuelScotland at Scottish Gas Murrayfield. So many fantastic speakers, and the chance to sit down for 1‑1 sessions with finance experts was absolutely invaluable. Left feeling energised, informed, and ready to put new ideas into action.

Team Talk Thursday: who really has your club’s player medical history?

Clubs — if your physio stepped away tomorrow, would your player medical records still be easy to find, safely stored, and ready for the next person to pick up?

In many clubs, important player medical history can end up living in places that were never meant to hold it long term — paper notes in a kit bag, a spreadsheet on someone’s personal laptop, or a folder only one person knows how to access.
It usually happens because staff/volunteers are doing their best to keep things moving. But when records sit with individuals rather than the club, handovers become harder, information can be lost, and it’s difficult to show a clear audit trail or manage data in a way that supports good GDPR practice.

PitchsidePal gives clubs one secure player record that belongs to the club — not a paper folder, a personal device or one physio’s memory. It helps keep medical information consistent, accessible to the right people, and easier to hand over when roles change.

If your club is still relying on paper notes, personal laptops or folders that only one person controls, now is a good time to think about what happens at handover. PitchsidePal helps make that process safer, simpler and more club-friendly.

POST‑MATCH MONDAY | Week 4

Every Monday we look back at the weekend just gone — and what it tells us about running a club, not just playing the game.

This week, for the first time, we’re pulling stories from both rugby and football. You’ll see more of that as we grow.

This weekend belonged to the underdogs. One side sitting bottom of their table came back from 15 points down to win with the very last play — a reminder that league position and reputation mean nothing compared to what a team does when it matters.

And the theme across almost every game? Defence. Not just stopping the opposition scoring, but unsettling them. In one match, a team cruising with a big early lead completely lost their composure after conceding once — and ended up losing from a winning position. Good defence doesn’t just deny points; it gets inside a team’s head. One mistake can shake confidence for the rest of the game.

That’s when cracks appear. When the shared plan wobbles under pressure, the players who stop trusting it and try to fix things alone only make the situation worse. The teams that held firm this weekend were the ones that stayed connected — to each other and to the plan — even when rattled.

And discipline, again, was decisive. One football side went down to 10 men for denying a goalscoring chance, conceded the penalty, and nearly lost the match outright. A moment of frustration, a card, and suddenly the whole afternoon changes.

None of that composure or connection happens by accident. It’s built during the week. PitchsidePal keeps training attendance, tactics and communication in one place so everyone works from the same plan — and instant messaging keeps management, medics and players aligned. No guessing. No outdated information. A team that’s aligned before kick‑off is a team that stays a team when the pressure hits.

See you next Monday. 🙌

Team Talk Thursday: where do your club’s medical updates really live?

Physios, coaches and team managers — have you ever found yourself using the same WhatsApp chats for Saturday plans, banter and important player injury updates?

WhatsApp is brilliant for quick club communication. It helps teams organise, check in and keep everyone connected — but it was never designed to hold confidential medical information, injury history or return-to-play notes.

In busy club environments, it’s easy for important information to end up in the wrong place. Photos can save automatically to phones, messages can be forwarded, and one update sent to the wrong group can make something private harder to keep private.

That’s why PitchsidePal keeps medical notes separate, secure and only visible to the right people. It gives clubs a clearer, safer way to manage player welfare — without relying on the same chat used for matchday lifts, availability and clubhouse updates.

🏉 POST‑MATCH MONDAY | Week 3

Every Monday we look back at the weekend just gone — and what it tells us about running a club, not just playing the game.

This weekend was a reminder of how much one missing player can reshape a match. More than once, a side without its usual go‑to names simply couldn’t compete the way it normally would. Meanwhile, teams with genuine depth — players ready to step in and step up — turned tight contests into comfortable wins. Different games, same lesson: it’s rarely just about who starts, it’s about who’s available when it matters.

And that challenge doesn’t begin on matchday. Every knock adds another name to the medic’s list, another return‑to‑play conversation, another update to chase before training. Spread that across a whole squad over a long season and it becomes more than physical — it wears on confidence, on resilience, and on the staff trying to keep track of it all. This weekend, more than one club couldn’t even field a second team because of it.

That pressure point is exactly where PitchsidePal is built to help. Clear injury notes instead of scattered texts. Properly tracked return‑to‑play dates, so you know who’s available before Saturday — not on it. Better communication between medics, coaches and players, so nobody’s chasing updates across group chats. It won’t stop injuries, but it will take a big chunk of stress out of managing them.

Team Talk Thursday: making matchday selection that little bit easier.

Coaches — how often have you been finalising your team on a Saturday morning and still waiting to hear who is fit, who is managing an injury, and who might need a bit more support?

In every club, player fitness updates can sometimes sit with one person — often the physio — who is doing their best to message around, catch people face to face, and keep everyone informed. It works because people care, but on matchday, time is tight and clear information really matters.

For coaches, team managers and volunteers, having the latest picture before players arrive can make a big difference — helping you plan with confidence and support players properly.

PitchsidePal brings those updates into one simple place, giving coaches a live medical summary and return-to-play status as soon as the physio logs it — so everyone has the information they need, without the last-minute chasing.

We’re offering a small number of club demos this month. If you’d like to see how PitchsidePal could help make matchday mornings smoother for your team, get in touch via our website www.phiit.org.uk.

🏉 POST-MATCH MONDAY | Week 2

Every Monday we'll be looking back at the weekend just gone — and what it tells us about running a club, not just playing the game.

This weekend was a masterclass in game management. One match flipped from a 16‑point lead to a nail‑biter decided in the final minute — a reminder that a half‑time score tells you nothing about the next 40. The biggest lessons often come from the games that slip away, not the ones that go to script. How a team responds during a bad patch says far more than avoiding one altogether.

It was also a weekend where accuracy beat adrenaline. Going hard and fast only gets you so far; once fatigue sets in, it’s precision, shape and decision‑making that keep the scoreboard moving. The teams still executing cleanly in the closing stages were the ones still in the fight.

And then there’s the quiet killer: discipline. Penalties don’t make the highlights reel, but they hand back territory and momentum just as quickly as you earned it. More than one game swung on a single poorly timed infringement — a reminder that discipline is a fitness issue as much as a mindset one. Tired players make careless decisions.

None of that is down to luck. It’s built on the training pitch — the reps on shape, the standards on ex*****on, the discipline held even when players are exhausted. That’s exactly what PitchsidePal helps clubs stay on top of: tracking training focus, fitness and performance across the season so your team turns up ready for both halves, not just the first.
