I had a great time this week attending the PENG Clinical Update course at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.

Lots of exciting learning from a sneak peak at the newest research coming out in the next edition of PENG including some interesting research updates on what we thought we all knew about protein requirements, reinforcement of how weight alone is not an adequate anthropometric measure and a deep dive into the intricacies of enteral and parenteral nutrition.

It was also fantastic to meet, network and share practices and experiences with dietitians from all over the UK working in a range of settings and specialities.

And finally, with it being my first time in Edinburgh, I could not miss doing some sightseeing and got to see the stunning architecture of the city, the dark history of the Greyfriars kirkyard cemetery and the underground city and vaults. I managed to also fit in some yummy vegan Mexican food and cat yoga too!

Thank you to the PENG team, speakers, and fellow attendees for an engaging and inspiring few days of learning and networking.

World IBD Day 💜

Working in gastroenterology, I see just how much inflammatory bowel disease can affect every aspect of someone's life. It's not just bowel symptoms.

Nutrition has an important role in helping people manage symptoms and flare ups, meeting nutritional needs, managing nutritional deficiences, avoiding unnecessary diet restrictions and help people living with IBD improve their quality of life.

I'm also grateful to receive this lovely gifted care package from VSL #3. There is some evidence that specific probiotic strains can be useful in certain GI conditions and in certain individuals, although they’re not appropriate or necessary for everyone. It's an interesting area for ongoing research and discussion in gastroenterology.

Also throwback to this highly requested talk I did with a colleague for Crohn's and Colitis UK North Essex Network a few years ago. It was a great day and brought lots up for discussion!
