Children in the UK are experiencing a lot of change right now, so itโ€™s natural if they become more agitated or stressed. Hereโ€™s an exercise you can take them through to help them tune into their feelings and keep calm.

This could be really useful for those who can't get to the shops for whatever reason right now. If you are helping someone out or know someone this might be useful too please share ๐Ÿ’™

During these times, we may know someone who may be self-isolating and may be struggling to get their essential shopping.

One of our coaches who works in digital design and marketing has created a website that allows people to create a shopping list for local supermarkets than can be emailed or messaged to friends or family to get for them.

If you know someone that this could be of benefit to, please show them this and offer to get their shopping for them.

Asda and Tesco are on the website currently with more planned to be added.

Website is at shopnshare.co.uk

This is a difficult time for all children who don't understand why they can't do the normal things they do. For children with addition needs this is a much more stressful time for the whole family. It's important to stay home and stay safe. We will come through this and when we do we'll be able to go back to all these things. In the meantime make your own new "normal" do some more activities together, do the things at home you usually wish you had more hours in the day to do. Cherish this time at home with you're loved ones and make some good memories from this time to look back on.

So read those books together ๐Ÿ“–, learn a new dance ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ, play games you haven't for a long time ๐ŸŽฒ๐Ÿงฉ , play dress up ๐ŸŽญ, build dens ๐ŸŽช, get arty and creative ๐ŸŽจ ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŽจ or cook together ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ. Whatever it is have fun doing it โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

We may not be able to be face to face with our families ๐Ÿฅบ but we wanted to do a wee project that brought us all together even though we are apart. Support for each other is vital now more than ever. Keep in contact however you can but stay safe and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Some of the kids and adults are a bit camera shy ๐Ÿ˜ณ but everyone of them produced fantastic pieces of work. We are so proud of every one of these kids because we know just how difficult this is for every one of them ๐Ÿ’”.

They are also missing all the coaches from https://www.facebook.com/UtdSports/ and the centre staff from The Connie (Connect Community Trust)

Please listen to the kids๐Ÿ™:

With the kids all being at home why not get them to decorate the windows with some rainbow themed images or crafts ๐ŸŒˆ๐ŸŒˆ. These can be drawn, painted or coloured in images, whatever there are no rules โค๏ธ Why not get creative and see what else they can come up with, maybe recycling some old stuff that's just laying around. Just use whatever you can find at home no need to go buy things and simply have fun ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Feel free to share your pictures on this post or tag us in them so we can see these. Brighten up Facebook with all the creativity from the kids (and big kids too ๐Ÿ˜‰)

** This is an open page so please be mindful of this, we recommend posting only a picture of the artwork without the child in the picture **

Stay safe everyone โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ

COVID-19:

We know that this is a worrying time for family carers of people who have a learning disability, so we have produced a short guide to help anyone providing regular support to a vulnerable friend or relative - http://bit.ly/GuideForFamilyCarers

To help you plan for what might happen if you become unwell, we also have an Emergency Planning Toolkit available for anyone who needs it. An emergency plan is a plan you set out for the care of an adult or a child in case of emergencies. It makes provisions for occasions when you are unable to fulfil your caring role, and it sets out the practical arrangements for short-term, unplanned periods. Visit http://bit.ly/EmergencyPlanningToolkit for more information.

Remember, we also have an Easy Read Guide about coronavirus to help start conversations about what it is, and how people can keep themselves safe - http://bit.ly/EScoronavirusInformation

We are absolutely heartbroken ๐Ÿ’”. Last night our office in The Connie Centre was broken into. Our iPads have been stolen and money stolen from ourselves and all services based in the centre.

Being a parent run charity that works hard to make a difference in the lives of children and their families affected by disabilities this is just devastating to say the least ๐Ÿ˜ญ We have had to close our session for at least tonight and this will have a massive impact on our young people and their families who were expecting to attend tonight. Not only have these people stolen from us in monetary value but they have impacted everyone of our members personally.

Please if anyone has information please contact ourselves or the police directly on 101.

This week was all about the love. We had the kids preparing and making some tasty treats full of love. They made some mini heart pizzas topped with little cheese hearts which were a huge success. The winter nights are drawing in but that doesn't stop our kids. There were the usual fun and games with UTD Sports Ltd and what better after being outside than to come into a fresh made cup of soup.

Soup on the menu last night was chicken noodle and it was delicious. Well done to Patrick who made this with some adult help, but just a little help ๐Ÿ˜Š

We are extremely proud to be the sponsors of the National Autistic Societyโ€™s Autism Hour 2018, which will run 6th to 13th October.

So, in addition to the Quiet Hour we run every Saturday for the first hour of opening in every The Entertainer store, we will also be supporting Autism Hour for the first hour of opening 6th to 13th October.

We strongly believe that our stores should be a welcoming and safe space for all children and families....difficulties and disability should NEVER be a stumbling block to experiencing the magic of a visit to the toy shop!
