💙 Today, we’re marking World Aphasia Day by celebrating the importance of communication, connection and independence.
Aphasia is a communication disability that can affect a person’s ability to speak, understand, read or write, and can follow a stroke. It can make everyday conversations and accessing essential services much more difficult, increasing the risk of social isolation.
At Independence at Home, we know how important the right equipment can be in helping people stay connected and live independently. https://independenceathome.org.uk/
Following a stroke, one of the people we support was left with aphasia and mobility difficulties. Living alone, he relied heavily on his computer to access services and manage everyday life. However, his ageing computer had become increasingly unreliable, and he had no funds to replace it or access the adaptive software he now needed for his communication.
Thanks to the kindness of our donors, we were able to help him him access an essential communication aid enabling him to continue expressing himself, participate in conversations and maintain his independence at home and in his community.
💙 Your support helps make communication, connection and choice possible. A laptop may seem like an everyday item, but for someone living with aphasia, it can be a vital lifeline to the outside world.
On World Aphasia Day, we thank our wonderful supporters for helping us make a practical difference to the lives of disabled people and people living with long-term illness. https://www.aphasia-international.com/events/international-aphasia-day-2/
Today we mark the celebration of the 2nd International Aphasia Day! We encourage you to find a moment today and talk with friends or family about what you already know and what you still wish to learn about aphasia!
