Autumnal evenings mean artist tape, acrylic markers and glitter fine liners!! 🫟

A handful of colours, absolutely zero plan, and just seeing where the pen takes me.😂

Something playing in the background, candles burning, and a little moment of mindfulness amongst the chaos of everyday life.☺️

No pressure to create something perfect and no end goal. Just drawing for the sake of drawing.....

My mind wanders, because of course it bloody does 😂 But I gently bring it back. Back to the colours, the patterns, the smell of the candles and the sounds around me.

And when it wanders again? I bring it back again......

That's mindfulness. It doesn't have to mean sitting in silence, eyes closed, trying desperately to think about absolutely nothing. That's impossible for my ADHD ass.....

For me it's just about simply getting lost in a page full of colour andd glitter 🌈

It looks different for everyone and may not suit everyone and that's ok ☺️

Mindfulness can be creative! messy and wonderfully colourful too. 💜

7 years ago, I stood on that little red dot! 🔴

I had absolutely no idea just how much standing there would change my career, my confidence, and as cheesy as it sounds..... my whole life. 💜

I met some of the best people! People who became friends, cheerleaders, and the voices reminding me I could do it when my own brain was saying, “Absolutely fu***ng not.”

I pushed myself way beyond my comfort zone. I learnt that I can do the scary things, the hard things and the things that make your knees wobble and your heart attempt to yeet itself through your chest. 😬

But somehow, that little red dot became the start of so many things I never imagined I would go on to do.

Seven years later, I'm still speaking.
Still pushing myself.
Still finding bigger rooms to use my voice in.
Still occasionally wondering who on earth let me have a microphone in the first place. 😂

Funny how something so small can leave such a big mark.
Thank you, TEDx.
And thank you, little red dot. 🔴

I have been keeping this one a little quiet... 👀

But today I went back to college!

This time......

As the tutor. 🤯💜

Honestly, there is something slightly surreal about walking back into a place where I once sat as a student, trying to learn, grow and figure out what kind of therapist I wanted to be... and now getting to stand at the front of the room and teach.

And I am absolutely delighted to be teaching the CBT course! ☺️

Exploring creative methods 🖌️
Looking at how CBT CAN be flexible and adaptable.
How it can be integrated alongside other modalities.
And hopefully challenging the idea that CBT has to be rigid, clinical or confined to worksheets and boxes.

learning has never just been about knowing the theory!!!!!
It's about taking it apart, getting curious, asking why, playing with it a little, and figuring out how we can make it work for the actual human being sitting in front of us.

Did I go on a few tangents today?

Yes.

Okay...

Maybe a lot. 😂

But hopefully somewhere amongst my enthusiastic rambling, the students walked away with a whole new understanding of what CBT can be.

Going from sitting in those classrooms as a student to now teaching the next group of counsellors feels pretty bloody special.

I remember being the person in the chair, soaking everything up, finding my own way of working and slowly becoming the therapist I am today.

And now I get to be a tiny part of that journey for somebody else.

That's quite something. ☺️💜

Sorry I’ve been a tad quiet! 💜

It’s been all systems go over here. I’ve moved offices into a much bigger space, with some even bigger ideas brewing behind the scenes... 👀
Watch this space.

But I’m still here. Still counselling, still working hard alongside people struggling with their mental health, and still doing the work I care so deeply about with those affected by eating disorders.

I will try to post a little more often 😆

Bear with me while I attempt to run a business, counsel, teach, create things and apparently redecorate my hair at regular intervals.

Still the same me.
Okay... maybe with different coloured hair. 💜😂

Still challenging stigma.
Still advocating for better understanding of eating disorders and mental health.
Still supporting people to find their way forward.

Some things are changing. Some exciting things are growing.

But the heart of what I do hasn’t changed one bit. 💜

More soon... 👀

📣ANNOUNCEMENT 💜

😄I am so excited to share that Courtney is joining the team! I have let her introduce herself below. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is very keen to learn! Stay tuned to see what services she will be offering to those struggling with ARFID and PICA! 🧐

"Hello, I’m Courtney I’m 27 and I’m so pleased to be introducing myself to you all.
I have a strong passion for raising awareness and sharing understanding around Autism and ARFID, particularly how these conditions can present themselves together.

My passion comes from personal experience, as my 4 year old son has both Autism and ARFID alongside PICA. Through this journey I have gained valuable insight into the challenges, experiences and realities that can come with navigating these conditions.

I’m looking forward to sharing, connecting and helping create more awareness and understanding around these important topics."

Ever tried to hold a beach ball under water?

It takes effort. Constant effort. It can feel bloody exhausitng!
And the second your grip loosens…... It explodes to the surface with force!😅

Feelings can be a bit like that.

⚽️The more we push feelings down, avoid them, or tell ourselves “not now,” the more pressure builds underneath. Until eventually it can’t stay there anymore… and like a beach ball, it flies back up to the surface with force. When it does, it can feel overwhelming, and we push it back down again. Continuing a cycle!

🤔What if, instead of forcing it under, we did something different?

What if we noticed the beach ball.

Saw it for what it is.
A feeling, and not something to try and get rid of.

What if we then bring it a little closer, without judgement.
We name it. Sit with it. Let it exist.

And when we’re ready, we don’t shove it away, back under the water......
We simply let it drift.☮

It might come back. That’s okay.
Each time, it gets a little less forceful, a little less urgent.

You don’t have to wrestle your feelings to be okay, sometimes it’s just about floating alongside them.🏖
