Each year, autumn often descends on me like a lowering fog, which is bizarre, as for me it is the most beautiful, thrilling, awe inspiring season and I love to be out in it, exploring its treasures and secrets.
This year is no exception, and I struggle with staying upbeat, resilient and positive, which is so against my nature I don't know who I actually am some days.
Why am I sharing this with you?
Not for sympathy, or responses of affirmation.
But incase you feel it too. Incase you feel heavy, anxious, hopeless and have no tools for dealing with that.
Mindfulness has been a proven practise with helping people to deal with these feelings for a long time. And now there are also many studies which show how good nature and being in the outdoors is good for our mood and our brains!
This morning, I put both together, as i have been practising for a long time.
And I invite you to join me. If you need to. Get your morning cuppa, wrap up, and before the day begins, sit. In your garden. Or walk. Through the quiet streets.
And breathe.
Follow each deep breath in through the nose and out through the mouth slowly. Notice the extent of each inhale...and exhale.
Notice the feel of the air on your skin and focus only on that. On each sensation it brings to each part of your body.
Notice the sounds around you. No need to judge the sounds. It might be a car engine or a morning bird's call or the wind rustling the leaves. Just notice what you notice for a few minutes.
If your mind wanders, no need to tell yourself off. Just notice where it went, without judgement, then bring it back to where ever your spotlight of attention was at that time.
Then breathe in gratitude for this brand new day. Where you get to bring to it whatever you choose to bring to this day. Feel proud of showing up in the world today.
My hope and prayer is this brings you a deeper sense of peace each morning. Practise with me each morning this week, and see where it takes you.
Lets show solidarity for all of us out there who share these feelings by responding in the messages...'I'm in'
With love ❤️
