I know that taking the first step towards counselling isn't always easy, especially when life already feels overwhelming. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, grief, loss, low mood, relationship difficulties, stress or simply feeling a little lost, having someone to talk to can make a real difference - https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/counsellors/danielle-trout

Grief doesn't always look like sadness. Sometimes you can be having a lovely day, enjoying yourself, and then something reminds you of the person you wish was there to share it with. Sometimes, I like to believe that those moments are their way of showing up 🤍

Its a reminder that over time, we find a way to allow heartache and happiness exist together.

Have you ever asked yourself why you react the way you do when things get difficult? 🌿Do you wish you could respond differently?

Whether we become defensive, withdraw, shut down or try to keep everyone happy, these responses often develop as ways of protecting ourselves.

But what has helped us cope with difficult or traumatic experiences in the past might not be helping us now.

By recognising and understanding these patterns, we can begin to respond with more compassion towards ourselves and our needs. These patterns and cycles can be changed, helping us develop healthier ways of navigating life's challenges. 💜

We all experience mental health differently, and yet for many it can feel like such a lonely time. 🌿 Sometimes finding the words isn't easy, but you deserve to feel heard and understood.

You could start with - "I have some things going on in my life and I don't feel like myself, I'm just not sure what to say about it?"

Equally, if we notice a change in someone let's not always wait for them to open up. Checking in, asking how they REALLY are and gently encouraging that conversation can make all the difference for that person.

Responding with - "I can see you're not really fine, I am really glad you have said something.... I know it's not easy to talk about things but you can trust me...I care and want to understand how things really are for you at the moment....How long have you been feeling like this?...Can you tell me what has happened?...How have you been dealing with this so far?... Are you looking after yourself?...What do you need?...I know it's daunting but have you considered counselling?...How can I help?...I am here for you.

And when someone does share, it's important that we hold back the urge to be 'the fixer' and instead just REALLY listen, be present, ask questions, and respond without judgement.

Every experience matters. Mental health matters. Your mental health matters and how you feel matters. 🌿

You don't have to navigate it alone.

💚

October brings a change of season — and it can be a good time to check in with yourself, too. As the days grow shorter and life shifts into a new rhythm, My Talking Therapy offers a safe, supportive space to pause, reflect and talk through whatever is on your mind. This autumn, make some time for you.🍂

Do you ever replay a conversation long after it’s finished?

Overthinking can look like analysing what we said, worrying about how we came across, or imagining what someone else might be thinking.

But sometimes the more useful question isn’t “How do I stop overthinking?”

It’s “What might this overthinking be trying to protect me from?”

Fear of rejection, uncertainty, a need for reassurance, or wanting to feel understood can sometimes sit underneath it.

Becoming curious about the pattern can be a different place to begin. Sometimes we discover that whilst those behaviours used to be helpful at a different time in life, they serve less purpose today. 🌿

Does your mind replay conversations too?

Do you ever find yourself replaying a conversation long after it’s finished — wondering what you said, what they thought, or what you could have done differently?

Sometimes it can be helpful to get curious about what might be sitting underneath the overthinking. 🌿

If this resonates, you’re not alone.

Save this for later, or share it with someone who might find it helpful.

With all the excitement, hope and anticipation surrounding this year's World Cup, football is about so much more than the final score.

For many of us, it can bring excitement, pride and connection. But it can also bring stress and anxiety.

If this tournament has taught us anything, it's that talking about how we're feeling isn't a weakness—it's a strength. And the England team have been great advocates for talking about mental health.

Congratulations, England, on another incredible journey. ❤️🤍

And wherever this World Cup takes us next, let us continue to be proud and supportive. And don't forget to look after your own mental health too.

Mental health IS health.

Just as we wouldn't ignore a physical injury, we shouldn't feel we have to struggle alone with our emotional wellbeing.

Looking after your mental health isn't a luxury, a weakness, or something to put off until things get worse. It matters every day.

Seeking support isn't a sign of weakness – it's a sign of strength, self-awareness and self-care.

Be gentle with yourself. Ask for support when you need it. It's okay not be okay and to ask for help.
