Something witty about September here

🤷🏻‍♂️

A combination of arthritis and work had me in bits recently. Was about to jump straight into a lower body session but thought I’d better assess where my hips are at first.

Because nothing says “personal trainer” quite like limping around for three days after, moaning that I feel too old for this s**t. Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon levels of too old for this s**t.

Danny Glover was actually only 40 when he filmed the first Lethal Weapon in 1987❗️

So here are a few exercises I ran through to see what’s working and what isn’t before committing to anything that would leave me battered.

Nothing groundbreaking, just checking in with the usual suspects that get tight and grumpy.

Or you could just use these if you’ve been glued to the sofa all weekend. Some movement is definitely better than none, even if it’s just getting your hips to remember they’re supposed to do stuff.

Takes about 10 minutes. Your future self will probably thank you for it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Building muscle is absolutely worth doing.

Just probably not for the reason most people think.

Yes, muscle burns more calories than fat, but the effect is fairly modest. The real benefit is that you get stronger, move better, train harder, stay more active, and generally feel more capable.

That’s a much better reason to lift weights than hoping your metabolism suddenly turns into a blast furnace.

If you’re new to strength training and want help getting started without overcomplicating everything, feel free to drop me a message.

Missed the gym this week?

You don’t need a dramatic comeback.

You don’t need to punish yourself with extra cardio, double sessions, or a completely new plan on Monday.

Most of the time, the best thing you can do is much more boring:

• Get back to one normal, manageable session.

• Keep it simple.
Use slightly lighter weights if needed.
Don’t try to make up for every missed workout.
Leave feeling like you could train again soon.

That’s how consistency is built.

Not through perfect weeks, but through learning how to return after imperfect ones.

If you feel like you’re constantly restarting because work, family or life gets in the way, the plan may not be realistic enough for your actual routine.
