The sea has a way of finding the places you’ve been trying not to feel. It pulls things out of you.
Grief.
Desire.
Longing.
Anger.
Softness.
And somehow, standing there with nothing but wind, salt and skin between me and the horizon, I couldn’t avoid the conversation I’ve been having with my body.
A conversation that changes by the day.
Some days I want to hide her.
Some days I want to celebrate her.
Some days I don’t recognise her at all.
And then there are moments like this, when I remember she has never been the enemy.
She has carried me through every version of myself.
She has danced.
She has broken.
She has healed.
She has held grief and pleasure and fear and becoming.
Maybe the work isn’t to finally love every inch of her.
Maybe it’s to stop treating her like something I need to earn the right to inhabit.
To let her take up space.
To let her be witnessed.
To let myself feel beautiful without needing to prove that I am.
The tide comes in.
The tide goes out.
Nothing stays the same.
And neither do I.
So I’m done waiting to become someone I can love.
This is the body I have.
The body that has carried me here.
The body I am still learning to trust.
The body I am learning to stop apologising for.
And maybe that is the beginning of freedom… not loving her perfectly,
but finally choosing not to leave her.
Not for the smaller version.
Not for the easier version.
Not for the version I think the world will love more.
For her. For me.
Here.
Now.
In this body.
Fully, fiercely, unapologetically alive.
And to Paulina, thank you for holding me so beautifully through this entire day. For your kindness, your direction, your patience, and the way you made space for every version of me that showed up. You didn’t just create beautiful images, you created a space where I could feel, play, move, and be seen.
You cared for me from beginning to end, and somehow made me feel like a goddess in my own body again.
I’ll carry that feeling with me far beyond these photographs. 🤍
I photograph what makes you, YOU.
