Delivering better care means looking beyond individual incidents and understanding the wider factors that influence residents' health.

Sleep, nutrition, movement and social connection are closely linked. Poor sleep, for example, can affect appetite, mobility, mood and participation in everyday life.

For care homes, the challenge is understanding how these factors interact and where changes in care can make the greatest difference.

On Tuesday 20 October at 12 noon, Ally Cares CEO Tom Tredinnick will explore these connections in the Care England webinar, The Four Pillars for Happier, Healthier Residents.

The discussion will focus on practical approaches to supporting healthier, happier and longer lives.

How much of a care home's daily routine is shaped by what has always been done?

Routine bedroom checks are an important example. They are intended to support residents' safety, but they can also disturb sleep when someone is resting comfortably.

At Royal Star & Garter 's Solihull home, introducing Ally helped the care team review how checks were carried out.

Routine checks reduced from 241 to 163, while checks that disturbed residents fell from 180 to 120.

The result was a more personalised approach, with care teams better able to focus their attention where it was needed.

There's so much more to good care than keeping residents safe.

It's seeing someone enjoy their meals again, join in with activities, spend time with others or simply have the energy to enjoy their day.

At Briarscroft, the care team has seen residents become more engaged in everyday life since introducing Ally.

In this short clip, Hayley Norman shares what that change has meant for the home.

Because the realities of delivering care aren't just about managing risks. They're about helping people live well.

Discover how small changes in care can make a meaningful difference to residents' everyday lives.

One of the toughest parts of caring for someone is recognising when a small change might be the beginning of something more serious.

At Charnwood Country Residence, the care team noticed a resident coughing overnight. When the same pattern continued the following night, they had information they could share with the GP, supporting earlier treatment.

It's a practical example of how understanding what happens when residents are alone in their bedrooms can help care teams recognise changes that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Ally doesn't diagnose illness. It helps care teams recognise changes, use their professional judgement and seek the right support sooner.

What happens overnight doesn’t just affect the night.

Sleep and recovery can influence how someone eats, moves, feels and engages with other people the following day.

On 20 October, Tom will be joining Care England to explore those connections through the Four Pillars of nutrition, movement, social connection and recovery.

The webinar is free to attend and runs from 12:00–13:00.
