For years, thought what she was experiencing was simply a “normal” period.

In this conversation with ABC News Live, Tamar opens up about her journey with fibroids and how symptoms she had learned to live with were actually affecting so much of her everyday life.

It’s such an important reminder: just because something has become normal to you, doesn’t mean it should be.

For six years, Dawn Heels lived with worsening fibroid symptoms while feeling dismissed and reassured that what she was experiencing was “normal.”

In this powerful conversation with , Dawn shares her experience of extremely heavy, painful periods and passing large clots, and how her concerns were repeatedly downplayed. She was initially diagnosed with two fibroids, but years later a specialist found at least six, and surgery ultimately resulted in 16 fibroids being removed.

Her story is such an important reminder of why women need to be listened to when they say something doesn’t feel right. Common doesn’t mean you should have to live with it.

Thank you for continuing to share your experience and advocate for women living with fibroids.

This isn’t normal - first we need to educate women so they can advocate for themselves but then we need to make a change. This condition deserves a treatment that doesn’t involve surgery - do you agree?

It’s a once-daily medication that works by lowering oestrogen levels, helping to shrink fibroids and manage symptoms. Because of the way it affects hormones, you might also hear it described as creating a temporary “medical menopause.”

So, how does it actually work? What is add-back therapy? And what should you know about potential side effects? We’ve broken down the key things to know in this carousel. →

A conversation we need more of. 🤍

opens up about her own experience with fibroids, and the reality of navigating women’s health when so much can be happening behind the scenes.

It’s another reminder of why sharing these stories matters. The more we talk openly about fibroids, painful periods and the symptoms women are too often expected to simply live with, the easier it becomes to recognise when something isn’t right and advocate for answers.

Thank you and for continuing the conversation. 🎙️

Fibroids is often confused with peri-menopause becuase many symptoms are shared.

If you are experiencing changes to your cycles, moods, energy or you’re suddenly experiencing pain - speak to your GP.

Despite being very common (70-80% of women) fibroids is not talked about enough. I had no idea what they were before I was diagnosed.
