First low-impact home workout DONE! 💪🏼✨ With a wide-awake, attention-seeking baby in tow, of course! 😂 A little pause halfway through to breastfeed Auden, then straight back to it. 🤱🏼
Honestly, I was really nervous about getting back into exercise. I’ve been putting it off for a week or so because, although I LOVE training, I’ve been struggling with really weak legs since my C-section. My scar has taken a fair while to heal, and after a haemorrhage during surgery, I’ve had to be extra careful with my recovery.
But do you know what? I absolutely LOVED it. 🥹❤️ That post-workout hormone release felt amazing, and I was reminded of just how much I’ve missed moving my body.
Did I have to stop to entertain a baby? Yes.
Did I work out in my PJ shorts? Also yes. MIND YOUR BUSINESS. 😂🙌🏼
But did I get it done? HELL YES! 🔥
Pregnancy and birth change our bodies in so many ways, and I've definitely noticed a loss of strength, particularly in my glutes. Changes in glute strength and muscle function are common during pregnancy and postpartum, and I'm looking forward to rebuilding mine gradually.
And when it comes to nutrition, I'm absolutely NOT going to be putting myself in a massive calorie deficit. I'm exclusively breastfeeding my baby, and my body needs plenty of energy and nutrients to recover from major abdominal surgery, rebuild muscle and produce the milk that feeds my little boy. 🤱🏼🩷
I'm not about to sacrifice my recovery or milk supply in the name of weight loss. I'll be focusing on fuelling my body properly, prioritising protein, eating enough and allowing my strength to return without putting unnecessary pressure on myself.
I'm not chasing a quick transformation or trying to bounce back. I'm focusing on recovery, fuelling my body, breastfeeding my baby and getting STRONG again, one workout at a time.
I'm excited to document my progress over the next few months and see what my body can do as I rebuild my strength. 🩷
Here's to starting where you are, working with the body you've got, and remembering that progress doesn't have to be perfect to count. ✨
