What a gorgeous evening at creating, experimenting and making our mark! 🎨

We took inspiration from the gorgeous pages of and turned them into our very own lino tile prints.

I absolutely love how different everyone’s creations turned out!

The process is wonderfully simple:

✏️ Find inspiration or draw your own design.
📝 Trace your design and transfer it onto a soft foam lino tile.
🎨 Press into the foam to create your marks and patterns.
🌈 Use ink pads to experiment with different colours.
🖼️ Press onto paper to reveal your print, then repeat, layer and play!

We use soft foam lino tiles rather than traditional lino, making this a much gentler, more accessible way to explore printmaking. No sharp carving tools needed and absolutely perfect for beginners!

Some people came along with friends, while others arrived on their own. That’s one of my favourite things about these workshops. ❤️

They’re a lovely way to meet new people without the pressure of having to make conversation. You can chat away, quietly get lost in your creativity or enjoy a bit of both.

Low pressure, lots of creativity and a really welcoming space to try something new.

This workshop was part of The Glimmer Project, funded by the UK Government, helping us bring accessible, creative wellbeing opportunities to our local community.

Fancy joining us for a little creative time of your own?

We’ve got lots of lovely workshops coming up, with something for complete beginners and experienced creatives alike.

“The best. KD & SE representing Self Care Creatives” ❤️

A little handmade card from Kimmy’s son before we headed off to the Stockport Business Awards last night. And quite frankly, who needs a trophy when you’ve got that?! 🥹

We might not have taken home the award for Best Not-for-Profit, but we’re feeling incredibly proud to have been recognised as one of the top three not-for-profits in Stockport!

What a wonderful evening celebrating some of the brilliant businesses and organisations that make our borough so special.

It was lovely to see so many familiar faces, including our friends at Sector 3 - Stockport , and we were particularly thrilled to see TWO businesses we’ve collaborated with taking home awards!

❤️ Almond Family Pubs, who run the wonderful The Station House where we host so many of our creative wellbeing workshops.

❤️ The Coffee Block, who won TWO awards and who kindly exhibited our community artwork from the Vision of Stockport project.

Both are family businesses with wonderful values and community at their heart. We couldn’t be happier for them!

A huge congratulations to Stockport Advocacy, very worthy winners of the Best Not-for-Profit award. Their work advocating for people whose voices might otherwise go unheard is so incredibly important.

And to our fellow finalists OMNI MUSIC, congratulations to you too! What an achievement for all three of us to be recognised among Stockport’s brilliant not-for-profit organisations.

It was also lovely to see Signpost For Carers as the chosen charity for the evening. Another fantastic organisation we’ve collaborated with and continue to work alongside.

One of the things I love most about Self Care Creatives is the connections we’ve made along the way. Seeing so many organisations we’ve worked with, supported and cheered on being celebrated in one room was really rather special.

We had a fabulous evening getting dressed up, celebrating our community and reflecting on just how far we’ve come.

And that little handmade card? I think it might be my favourite award of all. ❤️

🍒 Life is short, eat the cake 🍰

I’ve been loving creating art with specific people in mind lately, especially when it’s to celebrate another trip around the sun.

This little lino design features a gloriously indulgent chocolate cake, piled high with whipped cream and finished, obviously, with a cherry on top.

Because if there’s ever a day for cake, it’s your birthday.

There’s something so satisfying about thinking about the person while I’m sketching, carving and printing, then creating something that feels especially them.

And I think this one is a pretty good philosophy for life too…

🌹 Whimsical Chapters: A Rose Between Thorns 🌹

Well… this escalated 😂

What started as a teeny little sword bookmark with a few whimsical roses has somehow turned into an entire hoop of creeping vines, twisting thorns and blooming pink roses.

And I regret absolutely nothing.

I took it along to Crafty Cinema thinking I’d add a few more details while we watched Practical Magic 2, but apparently having a couple of hours to sit, stitch and enjoy the film was all the encouragement I needed.

The vines crept further. More roses appeared. Little buds started popping up everywhere.

I’ve loved the process of this one so much that I just haven’t wanted to stop.

There’s something really lovely about letting an embroidery grow organically like this. Not having every single stitch planned, but letting it evolve as you work and seeing where it takes you.

The sword is still at the heart of the design, but now it’s being completely taken over by this wild, romantic tangle of flowers.

Very romantasy.
Very enchanted.
Very “I’ll just add one more rose…” 🌹

Whimsical Chapters: A Rose Between Thorns is officially in full bloom and I think it might be one of my favourite designs I’ve created in a while. ♥️

🍂 Nature Calligraphy at Webb Lane Allotment 🌻

A big thank you to everyone who joined us this morning for our Glimmer Project Nature Calligraphy workshop at Seeding the Change CIC at Webb Lane Allotment, Offerton.

It was such a lovely, relaxed morning of creative time, with plenty of no-pressure calligraphy for beginners, inspired by the beautiful autumn nature around us.

We took inspiration from marigolds, figs, tomatoes, sunflowers and more, turning the colours, shapes and textures of the allotment into creative ideas for our lettering.

We were also delighted to chat to the Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester while she visited Seeding the Change CIC. It was wonderful to share the great work happening in the community at the allotment and the positive impact it has on local people.

A huge thank you to for welcoming us into their beautiful allotment space, and to everyone who came along, got creative and shared the morning with us.

We loved seeing everyone’s creativity come to life 💚

This one started with a brilliantly random request from my monthly online class for a library in America 🇺🇸

Which led me to this teeny tiny sword bookmark, embellished with whimsical hand stitched roses, and I am a little bit obsessed with how it’s turned out.

It feels absolutely made for romantasy readers, magical stories and anyone who likes their embroidery with a little bit of fairytale whimsy ✨

And after a lovely visit to this week, where we got chatting about their brand new , it’s definitely got me daydreaming about all the bookish creative possibilities… 👀📚🌹

This is one we hear all the time:

“I’d love to come, but I wouldn’t know anyone.” 💚

And we completely understand it. Walking into a room full of people you don’t know can feel like a really big thing.

But here’s what we want you to know…

Lots of people who come to us for the first time come on their own.

You won’t be the odd one out. You won’t need to find someone to bring with you. And you definitely don’t need to be confident, creative or good at making conversation.

There’ll be something to make, a cuppa to hold, and a table to sit around. You can chat loads, chat a little, or just quietly get on with your craft.

And the really lovely bit?

Some of the people who once nervously walked through the door on their own are now the familiar faces welcoming somebody else for the first time. 🥹

You can come on your own. You just might not feel like you’re on your own for very long. 💚

A real pinch me moment today.

Practical Magic was one of my favourite films as a teenager.

I love a margarita, I have a pretty strong belief that life is better when you surround yourself with wonderful women, and watching the sequel today got me thinking about how much the films we love when we’re young quietly shape the people we become.

Because today, somehow, this was my job.

We brought together 50 people and packed out a cinema screen for our Crafty Cinema. A room full of people crafting, chatting, laughing and watching a film about women supporting one another through some of the hardest moments in life.

And there was something really lovely about looking around that cinema and realising that, in our own little way, that’s exactly what we were doing too.

Creating a space where people could come together. Where coming alone didn’t mean being lonely. Where you could bring your own craft, sit quietly if you wanted to, chat if you wanted to, and just spend a couple of hours in really good company.

Little Steph, watching Practical Magic all those years ago, would never believe that one day she’d create this job for herself.

And I’m not sure grown up Steph quite believes it either.

What an absolute joy. ♥️

Were there any films you loved growing up that you think helped shape the person you became?

Tell me yours. I could do with a list of movies to watch… and you never know, maybe some future Crafty Cinema inspiration too!
