Weight management should be more than a prescription.

A tablet or injection doesn’t know your medical history, what you’ve tried before, what medicines you take, how you sleep or what you actually want to achieve.

And losing weight is only part of the job.

Good medical weight management means proper assessment, monitoring side effects, reviewing progress, thinking about muscle and nutrition, and having a plan for what happens next.

That is how we’ve built Xvera Balance.

Treat the person, not just the algorithm.

Does TRT affect fertility?

It can.

Testosterone treatment can reduce the hormonal signals involved in s***m production, which is why fertility should be considered before treatment starts.

The effect is not identical in every man, but if having children in the future matters to you, it is something that should be discussed at the beginning — not after treatment has already started.

Good testosterone care is about more than prescribing.

It means looking at symptoms, blood results, health, goals and future fertility together.

Is cortisol making you fat?

“Cortisol belly” has become a very popular explanation for weight gain online.

The reality is more complicated.

Stress can affect sleep, appetite, eating patterns, alcohol intake and activity — all of which can influence weight.

But that is very different from saying ordinary day-to-day stress simply raises cortisol and directly causes abdominal fat.

“Cortisol belly” isn’t a medical diagnosis.

Good weight management starts by working out what is actually contributing to the problem rather than attaching everything to one hormone.

Do testosterone boosters actually work?

Most products marketed to raise testosterone have pretty underwhelming evidence behind them.

And if your testosterone is genuinely low, the better question is usually:

Why is it low?

Sleep, weight, illness, medications and other health factors can all play a part.

At Xvera Medical, we assess men with symptoms and low testosterone properly and discuss appropriate, evidence-based treatment options where indicated.

Biology, hormones, metabolism and lifestyle all play a part in weight loss, which means it’s never just about willpower.

Xvera Balance is our consultant‑led medical weight management programme. We start with a consultation and asking about your health, lifestyle and goals, then explore what options may be right for you. You’ll meet with an experienced Consultant Physician who will assess whether a medical plan is clinically appropriate and safe. If it is, you’ll receive a personalised approach with structured reviews and ongoing support — not a one‑off prescription.

Medicines are provided only after a consultation with a qualified prescriber and when clinically appropriate. If you’d like to explore your options, you can book a consultation via the link in our bio. You can read our latest blog on: Why Am I Doing Everything Right and Still Not Losing Weight? on our website - link in bio.

Meet the lead consultant at Xvera Medical, Fraser.

Fraser has worked in medicine for over 20 years and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, with a PhD in Pharmacology focused specifically on adverse drug reactions. That background in drug safety is so important to the way we work - it isn’t an after thought, it is an essential part in what we do.

We know that sometimes modern healthcare can feel rushed or in-personal, so we are here to do things differently right from the start. From your first consultation with a consultant physician, right through to your tailored programme and prescription, we make sure every decision is right for you, with clinical support every step of the way.

I'm a consultant physician, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, and I’ve spent much of my career treating the consequences of poor metabolic health — stroke, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, loss of fitness and declining function.

In midlife, the warning signs are often much quieter: tiredness, weight gain around the middle, poorer sleep, reduced fitness, low libido or erectile problems.

Sometimes testosterone is part of the picture. But often the bigger issue is a combination of weight, sleep, alcohol, medications, activity, metabolic health and ageing.

That’s why we offer a Men’s Midlife Health Review at Xvera that is deliberately broader.

Consultant-led 60-minutes ÂŁ395, including a full blood panel.

The ÂŁ50 Blood-Test Panel Problem

More tests must mean better healthcare, right?

Not necessarily. Test 20 different things in a healthy person and, under a simplified statistical model, there's roughly a 64% chance at least one result will fall outside its reference range.

Not necessarily disease. Just mathematics.

Blood tests are incredibly useful, but results need interpreting in the context of the patient, not simply against a traffic-light dashboard.

Good medicine starts with the patient, not the panel of tests.

Feeling exhausted, struggling at the gym, or just not feeling quite like yourself lately?

If your social media feeds look anything like mine, you’ve probably been told that low testosterone is automatically to blame. But the truth is, symptoms like fatigue, low libido, or weight gain are complex.

They can also easily be triggered by stress, poor sleep, alcohol, medications, low mood, or sleep apnea.

A quick blood test only gives you a number—it doesn’t give you a full diagnosis. We’re not about “medicine by numbers”, instead we focus on the individual. Don’t guess when it comes to your health. Ready to get to the root cause?

The answer is no, absolutely not, despite what you may read online.

If losing weight feels harder than it did 10 or 15 years ago, your metabolism has likely changed—but it hasn’t suddenly broken. Chat to a consultant today to find out more.
