The average 5K is 31:28 for men and 37:28 for women.

Those numbers surprise the fast crowd, because the 5K is the distance everyone assumes they should be quick at. It is short enough to feel accessible and long enough to punish anyone who starts too hard. The field is full of first-timers, parkrunners, walk-run finishers and people showing up for a local charity race on a Saturday morning.

Sub-30 puts a man ahead of about two thirds of the field and a woman ahead of three quarters. Sub-25 is the top 10% for men. Under 22 minutes puts a woman in the top 1%.

The spread here is wider than at any other distance. Fourteen minutes separate the average from the top 1%, which is more than the fastest finishers take to complete the whole race.

Numbers from RunRepeat, based on 35 million race results. Global data, weighted toward the US, EU, UK, Canada and Australia.

First run with (For All Runners) this morning, and what a way to start. 🌾

A beautiful loop through the rice fields of Ubud with a brilliant group of humans, on the very morning of the equinox. The one day of the year when light and dark sit in perfect balance.

Back home in the UK it marks the start of autumn, a time to slow down, go inward and let go of what no longer fits. Here in Bali, just south of the equator, it's the spring equinox, a season of new growth. I love that I'm standing in both at once: releasing the old chapter and stepping into a new one.

That's what running has always given me. Balance. Space to breathe. A reminder that every season has its purpose.

Grateful for new friends, new trails and new beginnings. Same time next week? 🏃‍♀️✨

Good luck to Keely in the Diamond League
Today!

Also this is occurring….

PROJECT 222

British runner Josh Kerr is attempting to break the men’s one-mile world record of 3:43.13 (set in 1999). His target time is 3:42.00 - exactly 222 seconds - hence the name "Project 222."

This Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the London Diamond League.

Why it’s a big deal!

This is considered one of the hardest and oldest standing records in track and field. Kerr has been very public about his intent, aiming to leave a legacy and inspire the next generation of runners.

He’s using a custom-built "Hyperion 222" spike (3D-printed to his specific foot strike) and an aerodynamic, temperature-regulating speed suit developed by Brooks specifically for this race.

How to watch: The race is scheduled for 10:36 AM ET (3:36 PM local time in London)
