So, where did Goode Energy come from? 💜
Around 4 years ago, when my son was finishing high school, I decided it was time to change my married name. Returning to my maiden name didn’t feel right, and after a lot of deliberation, my sister suggested using my Nana’s maiden name, Goode. It felt perfect.
When it came to naming my business, I knew I didn’t want just any name. There needed to be meaning behind it, a story to tell. I was having breakfast with two friends when Lesley came up with the name Goode Energy, and it just felt right.
But Goode Energy means more to me than just a name. It carries a little piece of my family history and reminds me of a very special lady.
My Nana, Ellen Newlove, known to us as Nana Love, lived in a two-bedroom flat in Salford. She was always busy in the kitchen, or the kitchenette, as she called it!
I remember her with her rollers in and her apron on. She always seemed to be wearing her “pinny”.
At Christmas, the whole family would squeeze into her lounge, gathered tightly around the dining table. Nana would make everyone their own individual trifle because someone didn’t like sponge, someone else didn’t like the fruit, and she wanted everyone to have something they enjoyed. She was such a kind and thoughtful lady.
My sisters and uncles would tell me how she wouldn’t think twice about putting the chip pan on at 10pm or 11pm at night to make sure they’d had something to eat after a night out!
My Nana had a lovely social life, with lots of friends around her. Sunday nights were always pub nights, but there was always something happening on other days, too, whether it was dancing, bingo or visiting friends.
These are just a few of the fond memories I have of my beautiful Nana Love. Choosing Goode as my name gave me a connection to my family that felt right, and when the name Goode Energy came along, it brought that connection into something new that was meaningful to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
With love
Jannene Ellen Goode 💜
