💫 One common worry that keeps popping up with people who are new to meditation is the fear of not being able to "switch off their busy minds" during sessions💫.

So, for anyone new to meditation, here are a few helpful reminders and tips to make the experience as enjoyable and peaceful as possible.

🪷Don’t panic or get frustrated if your mind wanders and random thoughts start popping into your mind. Just remember that a wandering mind is a natural part of meditation practice. It's not a failure - even those with plenty of meditation experience may still experience a wandering mind sometimes.

🪷 Having a completely blank mind is not the goal of meditation. It's OK if a thought pops up – when it does just acknowledge it without judgement and then gently bring your focus back to your breathing and the natural rhythm of your breath. No matter how many times your mind wanders, just bring your focus back to your breath.

🪷 Remember that a meditation filled with random thoughts and a wandering mind is still beneficial.

🪷 There is no right or wrong way to meditate – the important thing is that you have taken time to invest in your mental wellbeing.

💫Mastering meditation takes practice. Hopefully these tips will help you on your meditation journey💫

💫🪷What to bring to a relax and reset session. 💫🪷

You'll want to wear warm, comfortable clothing, thick socks are also a good idea.

You will want a mat. Yoga mats are ok and if you don’t have one, let me know and I can lend you one. BUT if you want to invest in something more comfortable, I highly recommend the self inflating camping mats - they are easy, compact and cost around £25 on Amazon.

If you want back/lumbar support or have restless legs, a bolster cushion (the type often used in yoga) can really help. These are a bit more of an investment - you can get a good one for about £38

You’lll need a pillow (or two) and a warm blanket - you need to make yourself as comfortable as possible.

Also a bottle of water is handy too.

A few people prefer to sit and bring their own chairs. Again, make sure they’re comfortable and that they recline.

The electric hot water bottles are great - once charged they stay warm for about 6 hours.

Eye pillows are lovely too - they cut out the light and are very restful to have on the eyes. I always have quite a few to lend out at sessions which are lavender and flaxseed. Again, some people bring their own. They’re easily available online - prices range from £7 upwards.

For those who enjoyed them at Saturday’s retreat.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Balls - Recipe.
(Makes 14 balls)

Ingredients

1 and a 1/4 cups of Medjool dates pitted (about 10)

1/4 cup of healthy peanut butter. (I use Meridian - the only ingredient is peanuts).

3/4 cup of rolled oats (organic if possible)

1 tablespoon chia seeds you can also use ground flaxseeds, hempseed, or an additional tablespoon of oats

1/8 teaspoon sea salt

3 tablespoons cacao/cocoa powder.

Method

If your dates are dry, put them in a small bowl and cover with boiling water. Let sit 10 minutes to rehydrate, then drain and pat dry.

Place the dates in the bowl of a food processor fitted with a steel blade. Pulse several times until the dates break into small bits and form a ball that sticks to the side of the bowl.

Add the oats, peanut butter, chia seeds, and salt.

Pulse until the mixture is broken down and in small pieces but not completely smooth.

Add the cocoa powder and pulse to combine. (At this point, the dough will look like crumbs, but when you scoop some into your hand and press to roll it into a ball, it should hold together easily.

If it seems too dry and isn't holding together, add a little peanut butter; if it's too sticky, add a few more oats. The amount you need may vary based upon the brand of peanut butter you use and the moisture of the dates.)

Roll the dough into balls of your desired size (I did slightly over 1 inch and ended up with 14 energy balls).

Enjoy immediately.

TO STORE: Leftover chocolate peanut butter energy balls can be refrigerated for up to 1 week.

TO FREEZE: Frozen protein balls are good for up to 3 months. Let thaw in the refrigerator or overnight.

This is a recipe I adapted from wellplated.com. I omitted the chococolate chips.
