To mark Week 2026 we wanted to raise some awareness of those less visible disabilities people may be dealing with. Amongst our team we have people living with neurodivergence, autoimmune disorders and medical issues. This lived experience helps to shape our services to better help others.
Not many people know that our main man and face of KeyCreate has a hidden disability.
Six years ago Dave was diagnosed with Crohn's, an Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Aside from the impact on the gut and gastrointestinal issues, Crohn's causes fatigue and malaise, joint pain and stiffness, eye and skin issues, affects mood and self esteem, and can cause anxiety and depression.
Dave picks up bugs more easily, takes longer to get over them, and takes longer to heal from injuries.
Flare ups are sudden and painful, and exacerbated by tiredness and stress, which is a challenge as both a high energy Practitioner, and a Father to three including a child with complex needs.
However Dave manages his condition really well and you'll almost always see him smiling. His passion for what he does, and the positive attitude and perspective that comes from working with others with a range of needs, keeps him going. He also receives support from the fantastic NHS Crohn's & Colitis team.
You never really know what someone else is going through. Always be kind, always be inclusive π
Your condition or disability does not define or control you; you're the boss ππͺ
