💚 Youngsters heading off to uni? - The Season of Trust 💚
Sending a child off to university is one of the most bittersweet milestones we face as caregivers. It feels like watching a ship called New Horizons leave the safety of the harbour. They set sail toward new islands—places of growth, challenge, and discovery—while we remain on the shore, both proud and anxious.
Our role changes, but it does not diminish. We become the lighthouse: steady, shining, and constant. Even when our children cannot see us, they can trust that the light is there—watching, guiding, reminding them of where home is.
Connectedness takes on a new shape. Gone are the daily routines of shared meals, lifts, and face-to-face conversations. In their place come phone calls, texts, FaceTimes , and maybe an occasional visit. It may feel different, but it is no less deep or meaningful. The bond between caregiver and child stretches across distance and time—it adapts, but it does not weaken.
We can trust the tools we’ve given them. Years of lessons, values, resilience, kindness, and encouragement have become the compass and sails they now carry. Those tools will serve them when they encounter calm seas as well as when storms arrive. Trusting them means trusting the person our children are becoming, and trusting we’ve done enough.
Their journey is their own, but they will never be alone. We shine steadily, faithfully, and lovingly from the shore. Always a place of safety. Quiet, reliable love 💚
Please share with anyone dealing with this milestone.
