This isn’t about blaming others or pointing fingers. It’s simply about recognising that, unfortunately, not everyone we meet in life will have the same kindness, intentions or consideration that we do.

And sometimes we can spend far too much time and energy trying to understand people, please them, or hoping they’ll treat us differently. And that can rob us of so much. Our joy, our peace, our self-belief and sometimes even our sense of who we are.

But here’s the good news. 🤍🙌

We can choose where we put our energy. We can stop chasing one-sided relationships, stop trying to prove our worth and start making more room for the people who genuinely care.

The ones who show up, cheer us on, value us and make us feel good about ourselves.

Because life can be difficult enough without relationships that leave us feeling drained, hurt or questioning our worth.

And choosing a little distance doesn’t mean you wish anyone badly. It just means you’re learning to look after yourself, too. 🍂❤️🐾

My tip of the day is to be around those who complement your life, not complicate it. x ☺️

The people we have in our lives can really affect how we feel about ourselves. 🤍

And one-sided relationships, whether that’s family, friendships or romantic relationships, can really take their toll.

When you’re always the one making the effort, making excuses for someone’s behaviour or feeling like nothing you do is ever quite enough. It’s exhausting. And sometimes you don’t even realise how much it’s affecting you until you step away.

For years I spent far too much time worrying about what other people thought of me, questioning myself and feeling like I needed to be a certain way to be liked or accepted.

But the older I get, the more I realise we don’t have to change who we are and we do have a choice about who we allow into our lives and how much of ourselves we give to people.

Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Especially when it’s people we’ve known or loved for years.

And yes, we might lose a few people along the way as we start making different choices.

But I believe that’s also when we start making room for people who are much more aligned with who we really are. People we can relax around, be ourselves with and who don’t leave us feeling drained or questioning our worth. life can be hard enough without the people in it making it harder.

I don’t want to spend the rest of my life trying to earn my place in other people’s lives. I just want to be myself and feel at peace with that. 🌿🤍

And I think that’s something worth choosing.🧚✨🍂

Have you found yourself becoming more selective about the people you surround yourself with as you’ve got older? 🤍

Let’s be honest, this year has been a lot for so many of us, or is it just me? 🤷‍♀️

And as we move further into autumn, with the days getting shorter and another year slowly drawing to a close, I think many of us are feeling the weight of it all.

Maybe life hasn’t quite gone the way you hoped. Perhaps there’s been more uncertainty than clarity (definitely for me atm). More challenges than you expected. And some days, just getting through the day has felt like a lot.

If you’ve been feeling tired, unsettled, emotional or overwhelmed lately, please know you’re not alone.

And there’s nothing wrong with you for finding things hard. Sometimes life really is challenging, and we don’t have to pretend otherwise.

So on those days when everything feels a too much, be gentle with yourself.

Slow down where you can. Rest without feeling guilty. Stop expecting yourself to have everything figured out.

And remember, just because life feels difficult right now doesn’t mean it will always feel this way.

There are still brighter days ahead. Still lovely moments to experience. Still reasons to feel hopeful, even if you can’t quite see them yet.

And for now, being kind to yourself as you find your way through is more important and enough. 🤍🍂

I’m currently reading You Can’t Please Everyone by Vex King and honestly, I can’t put it down. 🤍

It’s definitely found me just the right time in your life!

So much change, uncertainty and some pretty difficult stuff around relationships, it’s really got me thinking.
I’ve always tried to be a kind person. Sometimes probably a little too kind for my own good, if I’m being truthful. I’ve spent years trying to understand people, make allowances, keep the peace and not upset anyone. Even when, deep down, I was the one feeling hurt or completely drained by it all.
And I think when you’ve been that way for most of your life, (like me) it’s actually quite hard to start doing things differently. The guilt can creep in. The self doubt, the thoughts, ‘is it me?’

But I’m realising more and more that being kind doesn’t mean you have to give pieces of yourself away. Or keep putting your own feelings to one side because you’re worried about how someone else might react.
You can still be a kind person and say no. You can care about someone and still need distance. And you can wish people well without having to keep them in your life.

At 60 I really don’t want to spend the years ahead feeling responsible for everyone else’s happiness while forgetting about my own.

I don’t want to become less kind. I just want to be kinder to myself too.
And believe me, that’s still very much a work in progress! ❤️

Anyway, if you’re a bit of a people pleaser like me, I really recommend this book. It’s given me a lot to think about.
Anyone else finding they’re having to unlearn a few things about themselves as they get older? 🌿🤍

When your mind is full, your heart feels heavy, or you’re just trying to get through the day, it’s often the smallest, gentle things that bring the most comfort.

These things might seem simple, but when you’re struggling, they can feel precious.

What for you feels like a hug when life feels overwhelming? 🤍

I know how to fight my way through life. So all I want now is to feel at peace with myself. 🤍

I’ve spent so much of my life being strong. Getting through things I never imagined I would. Picking myself up, finding a way forward and carrying on, even when I’ve felt absolutely broken inside.

And I’m proud of myself for that. I really am.

But at 60, I need a break ☺️

I don’t want to spend the rest of my life feeling as though it’s something I constantly have to fight my way through.

I’m tired of always feeling I have to be strong.

I want to feel safe within myself. That’s all!

I want to stop questioning my worth because of how somebody else treats me.

I want to stop feeling that I have to prove myself, please people or earn my place in this world.

I want to stop being so hard on myself for simply being human.

And most of all, I want to be kinder to the parts of me that have spent years feeling frightened, inadequate or not good enough.

Because I’m beginning to understand that loving myself doesn’t mean I’ll never feel anxious, hurt, lonely or vulnerable again.

It means learning not to turn against myself when I do. Getting there!

It means protecting my peace, having healthier boundaries and giving myself the same kindness and understanding I’ve spent years giving to others.

I don’t expect life to suddenly become easy. I know there will still be difficult days, disappointments and things outside my control.

But I don’t want to spend whatever years I have ahead of me constantly bracing myself for the next difficult thing.

I want to actually experience my life, not just survive it.

And if that means spending this next chapter learning to feel safe, comfortable and at peace with who I am, then I can’t think of anything more worthwhile. 🤍🌿

I wonder how many of us have spent so long being strong that all we’re really longing for now is a little peace?

Well, my anxiety relief toolkit is officially back out. As I navigate a lot of uncertainty (and stress) in my life at the moment, and with that, anxiety has been showing up again.

And I suppose it’s given me the opportunity to practise what I preach!

But blimey, what a reminder of just how bloody hard anxiety can feel at times.

Even after all these years, even with everything I’ve learnt and even knowing that these feelings will pass, it doesn’t mean it’s always easy when you’re right in the thick of it.

And I think that’s something really important to acknowledge.

I’ve had days recently where I’ve felt frightened, overwhelmed, emotional and completely exhausted by it all. And I’ve had to keep reminding myself to slow down, stop fighting how I feel, get out of my head and allow the feelings to be there and, most importantly, be kind to myself.

Because anxiety really isn’t for the faint-hearted, is it?

And sometimes life throws so much at us that it’s hardly surprising our nervous systems struggle to keep up.

So if you’re going through a difficult time yourself, please don’t add to your suffering by giving yourself a hard time for struggling.

You don’t have to be strong every day. You don’t have to have everything figured out. And you certainly don’t have to force yourself to feel okay when you’re not.

Sometimes we just need to give ourselves the very same kindness, patience and understanding we’d so willingly give someone else.

I’m sharing my little toolkit in the hope that something here might help you too.

And also as a reminder that recovery doesn’t mean we’ll never feel anxious again. Life will still happen, difficult chapters will come along, but we can learn to respond to ourselves differently when they do.

I’m very much reminding myself of that right now.

So please, if life feels a lot at the moment, go gently with yourself.

You’re not alone. And however you’re feeling today, it won’t always feel this way. 🍂❤️
