Not all of our adaptations happen inside of homes.

This week the team's fitting driving controls into a Bentley: a steering ball for one-handed control, plus a combined brake and accelerator lever mounted beside the wheel. Pull it toward you and it accelerates, push it away and it brakes, control that used to sit at your feet, now entirely at your hand.

A rail measured and fitted to the exact curve of the staircase, a seat and controls set for the person using it, a full test run before we leave. Quiet work, but the give back is bigger than the job itself, getting upstairs again without a second thought.

The hinge is one of the smallest parts of a stairlift, and one of the most important.

Fitted where the rail meets a doorway or landing, it lets the track fold flat out of the way when it's not in use, so a hallway stays a hallway. Small detail, but often the difference between a stairlift that fits the house and one that just sits in it.
