A message from a past client today, completely out of the blue 💖

A reminder that the work doesn’t always end when you stop drinking.

Sometimes, that’s where the really good stuff begins 💫

Day 7 of Sober October, and a whole week done. Congratulations 💫

The first week can feel like a lot. We can think about drinking a lot, triggers can come thick and fast, and cravings can pop up relentlessly. So much of the week can feel like it’s all about the not drinking.

But in amongst all of that, hopefully some little glimmers have started to show up, and they’re so worth taking a second to notice. Waking up feeling that bit brighter in the morning. Bopping along to a song in the car. A proper belly laugh, no booze needed. Being fully there for a conversation. Reading the kids a bedtime story without a glass of w**e in your hand.

These are the moments worth taking note of. They’re small and easy to miss when the week has felt like hard work, but they’re the start of what you’re making space for.

The rewards are coming, it’s just sometimes hard to notice them at the start when we are hyper focussed on the not-drinking part. Really try to, because that’s what makes this all worthwhile 💖

It was my son’s birthday yesterday. He turned 12.

It was just after his 7th birthday that I had my last drink.

I’m so extremely grateful for these sober years and for the birthdays that have now passed without me drinking.

I remember on his 1st birthday having bubbly at lunch. I said it was to celebrate, but it wasn’t really, it was just because I didn’t know how to live differently back then. I relied on alcohol for social occasions, and for all emotions, good and bad. He had an Igglepiggle cake. It was such a gorgeous cake and I just remember feeling really sad that I didn’t feel able to just be fully present for it, and at peace with it. I had to have the w**e too. I remember knowing that the w**e wasn’t really a choice. I was past that point. Even then.

It took me 6 more years to work it out. I wish I’d done it sooner. I’m so glad I did it.

Sobriety has never, and will never be a sacrifice for me. It has been the greatest gift. It has enabled me to build the strongest relationships with both of my children. It wouldn’t have been the same if I’d still been drinking. I would have been physically there, but I would have been lost emotionally. I’m so grateful that I was able to set myself free.

I first reached for help with my drinking 15 years before I stopped. I then spent those 15 years going back and forth and trying everything – initially to try to be able to moderate, and then eventually to help me to stop drinking altogether. I found a solution and now I teach that solution to my clients.

I have worked with hundreds of people to change their relationship with alcohol, through my own coaching practice, alcohol-free programmes and community alcohol services. I understand alcohol and how much it can take hold – even for those who are outwardly holding it all together. And I understand the way out! There is always a way.

If you are stuck, book a free call and let’s talk. The link is in my bio (and on my website).

Yesterday we went to the amazing The Crocky Trail (Official) and had the best day full of nature, adventure and laughter – finished off with a birthday tea and cake. I felt at peace. That was all I ever wanted 💙

For those doing Sober October, how are you getting on? I’d love to hear how your first Friday night went. Did you find it easier than you expected, or did you struggle?

Most importantly, what did it give you that you don’t want to lose this weekend?

These are the things we need to hold on to. The wins. The gains. The things that make us want to keep going.

If you did struggle last night, I have a tool that I share with my coaching clients that might really help.

It’s a 10-minute voice note called Pause Before You Pour, designed to help you create some space between the urge to drink and what you choose to do next.

If you’d like me to send it over, comment PAUSE or send me a PM with PAUSE and I’ll send it over.

Keep on going - the best is yet to come 💫

If you’ve woken up today with a fuzzy head and a little bit of dread about committing to Sober October, I hear you. I was you. I’ve stood in that exact spot so many times.

So here’s how I’d love you to see it. This month isn’t a punishment, it’s a prize. It might not feel amazing straight away or all at once, but if you stick with it, it will reward you in so many ways. And choosing this for yourself is the hugest act of self-love.

So dig deep, give it the whole month, so you get to see what it really gives you.

I’m going live on Instagram tomorrow at 7am for a chat to set you up for your first weekend. Grab a coffee and come and join me.
