⁣ Social media is the perfect place for asking for advice and recommendations… on almost everything other than your health. All too often I see posts from people asking for help with weight loss, injury etc - without considering that the advice being given is usually from someone 𝘶𝘯𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘥, or that the information could actually be 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘧𝘶𝘭, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘧𝘶𝘭. That’s not to say that an unqualified person can’t given excellent advice, but it is something to be mindful of. ⁣
⁣
Usually this advice is given with the good intention of trying to help someone, but offering advice based on one’s own personal experience isn’t always helpful. ⁣
⁣
𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻, 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. ⁣
⁣
The biggest culprit of this that I see on my social media is the ‘just go low carb’, when someone asks how to lose weight. Sure, a low carb diet might work for someone. But 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 because it has put them into a calorie deficit. There is no evidence to suggest going low carb is the optimal way of losing weight. ⁣
⁣
This isn’t to say you can’t share your own personal experiences and offer advice, but my personal advice is that when doing this you should always start the conversation with “in my personal experience, I tried this” or “what I found worked for me was this”, even better, end the advice with “𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘬 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘵” ⁣

Hello Everyone 🙋🏼‍♀️
I’ve had quite a few new followers recently, so I thought I’d reintroduce myself and give you some insight into FMH Nutrition.

My names Faye Hutchins, solo mother to five year old Amber and our 8 month old cocker spaniel Stanley. I have worked in the health and fitness industry as a personal trainer for over 7 years, becoming an online coach over the last two years.

During lockdown I studied and qualified with EIQ Nutrition, the most incredible course which had a huge impact on my coaching business.

In January 2022 I launched my online group ‘FMH Nutrition + Weight Management’, with the aim of helping both men and women take control of their diet, without being controlled by a restrictive plan.

It is a private Facebook group for members only, including access to my coaching app. I speak with every member as they join the group, to set their individual calorie and macronutrient targets (if they want them!). Members are then asked to read through my nutrition and weight management guidance booklet, which will teach them the fundamentals of good nutrition and fat loss.

Within the group I do a Live talk twice per week, each one saved to watch back at any time. One talk is based on a topic (last week was eating out at social events, for example), and the other talk is a Q&A session. Via the app, each member has the opportunity to post a ‘daily self reflection’ which is where the individual support comes in. Members also have the chance to post on the daily accountability check within the FB group, and this is where the group support takes place!

January was a huge success, with so many members sharing that they now feel in control of their diet, have a better relationship with food, and with some losing between 7-14lbs in the first 4 weeks.

My goal as your coach is to enable you to eat the foods you love, whilst improving your diet and achieving your goals.

If you’d like my help,
Drop me a message and we can chat.

New intake starts 1st March!

Have a great weekend everyone,
Faye x

Fibre is something people often don’t consider when looking to change/improve their diet!

Here are some of the benefits:

☑️ supports feelings of fullness
☑️ supports healthy digestion
☑️ increases food volume
☑️ supports gut microbiome
☑️ can support weight maintenance and loss
☑️ reduces risk of bowel cancer

Did you know the UK average intake of fibre is just 18g per day? 30g per day is the recommendation!

Do you know how much fibre you’re consuming? Let me know in the comments ⤵️

In an ideal world, we would be getting all of our protein intake from natural foods.

The reality is though, for some people this can be quite difficult to do without careful planning (or can be more difficult for those with dietary requirements, such as vegetarians/vegans or those with dairy intolerances).

I highly recommend protein shakes to most of my clients, as they are quick, convienient and can be a low calorie option for those who are dieting.

There is nothing wrong with having protein shakes long term. It's all part of a healthy balanced diet and consuming enough protein is so important for eveyone.

I personally get my protein powder from MyProtein
(I get Impact Whey Isolate in chocolate smooth flavour)

What protein brands/flavours do you recommend?
Let us know in the comments ⤵

A client has asked me this week if she should drop her calories,
because she 'only' lost 1/4 of a pound this week (but has lost 8lbs this month).

I dropped her a few voice notes to explain why she absolutely does not need to drop her calories:

1) she is losing weight
2) scale weight fluctuates daily
3) weekly weight is almost irrelevant; it's the downward trend over time we want to see
4) I am yet to meet anyone who loses weight every single week during fat loss

This graph is from another client who has lost 6lbs. That big rise in 'weight' that you can see towards the end? That was a weekend out, eating and drinking. Notice how it has dropped straight back down again. Because she didn't gain body fat, she gained 'weight', they are both very different.

If you want to improve your relationship with the scales,
drop me a message.

It isn't too late to sign up for our monthly nutrition group which starts again today!

Great question from one of my followers - how long should it take to lose a stone?

The honest answer is, you’ll never know. It’s dependant on so many things; your start weight, age, adherence to a diet to name a few…

Ultimately, it will happen when it happens. So make a plan, set some targets, commit to the process, and the results will soon come!

If you need support with this, drop me a message.

I can hear myself now,
at dinners or nights out…

“you can’t go out and not drink”

“have the pudding, you only live once”

“have the burger, you can burn it off at the gym tomorrow”

I thought I was encouraging my friends to ‘live their best lives’. What I was actually doing was being really unsupportive.

My clients are experiencing this too.
The social pressure to eat certain foods.
Being questioned over their decision to choose salmon over a burger.
Friends asking them if they’re on a diet.

We have all been conditioned to believe that nights out are for drinking, that we ‘deserve’ to eat as much as possible during meals out, that if someone orders a salad it’s because they’re dieting and not because they actually enjoy a salad.

So if you’re reading this and thinking ‘I’m that friend’, it’s time to call yourself out on it. If you’re out with your friends, don’t question their choices. Don’t ask them if they’re dieting. Stop discouraging their better choices.

They have their goals & values, and you have yours.

Be supportive of their choices 🖤

It's been another successful week for FMH Nutrition.

Over the last three weeks i've been going live in the group to give talks on nutrition and mindset, and to answer any questions posted within the group.

We've covered:

✅ energy balance, and making sense of calories and macros
✅ role of exercise in fat loss
✅ motivation, willpower and decision fatigue
✅ social pressures when dieting
✅ scale weight and looking for the downward trend
✅ how we talk about dieting around children

My nutrition group members are reporting back feelings of being in control, clothes fitting better, higher levels of productivity and improved mental health.

This could be you 👀

Our next intake starts Tuesday 1st February
£29.99 for the month, OR £24.99 each if you sign up with a friend.

If you want to hear more about the group, drop me a message.

Are you worried about sticking to your diet/calories when eating out?

Here are my top tips to help you stay on track ⤵

💫 eat a small high protein snack before you go to reduce hunger levels. this may support you to make 'better decisions' or to eat less at the meal.

💫 look at the menu in advance. if you go to a meal super hungry, chances are you will choose foods that are higher calorie and perhaps not in line with your goals. make the decision whilst you are not hungry.

💫 don't just have a pudding for the sake of it. if you see something that you really really want, then of course, have the pudding. but if nothing on the menu particularly takes your fancy, then there is no point in having one for the sake of it.

I hope this helps! But if you want more support with this, drop me a message.
