There’s more to our little sauna elves than meets the eye. 🇫🇮

Meet Tahvo, Elli & Reiska. Three little characters of Finnish sauna folklore who have found their home at Steam & Salt.

In Finnish tradition, the ‘saunatonttu’, or sauna elf, was believed to watch over the sauna and protect its peace. The sauna was a deeply respected space, somewhere to slow down, connect, heal and leave the outside world behind.

So the elves became a reminder to respect the sauna, respect the ritual and keep the calming sauna spirit alive. 🧖‍♀️

WE’VE BEEN SHORTLISTED! 🥹🔥

We’re so proud to share that Steam & Salt has been shortlisted for the North East England Tourism Awards: Experience of the Year! 🏆

To make it onto the shortlist is something we’re incredibly proud of. But more than anything, it’s a reflection of the fabulous community that has grown with and formed part of Steam & Salt 🧡

Every person who has stepped through our doors, shared a sauna with us, brought a friend, returned week after week, recommended us to someone else, come to share the beach sofa on the prom for a chat, or simply taken a moment to slow down with us has helped make Steam & Salt what it is today.

So, thank you 🙏🏻🤍

Thank you for being part of our sauna community and for making this place so special.

The winner will be announced in Spring 2027 but for now, we’re just going to enjoy this moment and celebrate how far we’ve come. And take time to celebrate you too - our wonderful Steam & Salt community!

🔥 A little update from Steam & Salt

As we head into the colder months, we’re making a few changes to our sauna schedule - including some new sessions we think you’re going to love. 🔥🌊

Here’s what’s changing:

🕢 Last evening session
Our final evening session will be Saturday 26 September at 7:30pm.

🌅 New opening hours
From Sunday 27 September, we’ll be open:
Tuesday–Sunday · 7:00am–4:45pm
Last bookable session: 3:45pm

🔥 From 1st November:

👩 Women-only sessions
We’ve added women-only sessions every Tuesday, Wednesday & Saturday at 9:30am.

🤫 Silent sessions
For those who prefer a slower, more peaceful sauna experience, silent sessions will run every Tuesday, Wednesday & Sunday at 7:00am.

🎄 Festive sessions are coming…
We’ll be running special festive sessions from 20 December–4 January.
These will be released for booking on 16 November - so save the date!

Whether you’re joining us for a sunrise sauna, a quiet moment to yourself, or a winter dip followed by some serious heat… we’ll see you on the beach. 🌊🔥
