A new hospital for Lochaber has moved another important step closer.

The Scottish Government has approved the Outline Business Case for replacing Belford Hospital in Fort William, allowing NHS Highland to begin the final and most detailed stage of business planning.

The new hospital is intended to provide modern facilities and better connections between hospital treatment, community care and rehabilitation services.

It is welcome progress for communities across Lochaber, although the final cost, funding approval and construction timetable still need to be settled.

NHS Highland says it will continue updating residents as work progresses.
