Be a little bit more mindful in your daily activities!

Start with a Mindful Morning: Begin your day with a few minutes of meditation or deep breathing exercises to set a calm tone for the day.

Mindful Eating & Drinking: Pay attention to the taste, texture, and sensations of your food or drink while eating, without distractions like TV or smartphones.

Mindfulness in nature: Take time to connect with nature, focusing on the sights, sounds, smells and nature around you. If you cant get outside, look out the window.

Mindful Work: Set specific times for checking emails and messages to avoid constant distractions and be more present in your tasks. Focus on one thing at a time to reduce stress.

Mindful Listening: When conversing with others, listen actively without planning your response while they are speaking.

Gratitude Reflection: End your day by reflecting on three things you are grateful for.

Join together with others, move mindfully, smile, laugh, enjoy the music and the overall experience of exercising as a group!

Social interaction is essential for living a healthy and happy life. Social connection increases emotional wellbeing, helps decrease feelings of loneliness, reduces stress and has a calming effect on the nervous system.

Fill up your gratitude jar!

Living your life with gratitude means choosing to focus your time and attention on what you appreciate. The goal is not to block out difficulties, but to approach those difficulties from a different perspective. Appreciation softens us. It soothes our turbulent minds by connecting us with the wonderfully ordinary things, great and small, that we might otherwise take for granted.

As a wheelchair user, getting active will bring you important health benefits and can help you manage daily life, too.

Our Chair Yoga classes are perfect for those with limited mobility and those in wheelchairs. We gently encourage you to move your body in your unique way. We all have different ranges of mobility and ability. Each class is tailored to the needs of who we are teaching in the very moment!

The benefits of using Pilates Balls in our Chair Yoga classes:

✨They help with hand and eye coordination.
✨They are a great aid for strengthening muscles and joints.
✨They can be used to balance posture, stability and get the knees
and hips in alignment.
✨We can use them to target different muscle groups.
✨They are fun and sensory.

We are always thinking of new ideas and different equipment to use in our classes and the balls are a firm favourite!

Hand Therapy balls!

As we age, it’s important to keep our bodies moving and active. One way to do this is by exercising our hands. Hand exercise balls are a great way to improve strength, flexibility, and coordination in our hands and wrists.

*Strength*

Hand exercise balls can help to improve grip strength, which is important for activities such as holding onto a cane or walker, opening jars, and turning doorknobs. Grip strength also helps to prevent falls.

*Flexibility*

Hand exercise balls can help to improve flexibility in the fingers, wrists, and forearms. This can make it easier to perform everyday tasks, such as buttoning a shirt or tying a shoelace.

*Coordination*

Hand exercise balls can help to improve coordination between the eyes, hands, and brain. This can make it easier to perform tasks such as threading a needle or playing a musical instrument.

In addition to these benefits, hand exercise balls can also be a fun and enjoyable way to stay active. We love using the balls in our Chair Yoga classes!

Welcome to the Chair Yoga Club Team… Gemma!

Gemma is teaching in the Worthing and local areas surrounding. With years of yogi experience, a calm, nurturing and smiley aura we are delighted to have Gemma on our team! We put Gemma in the chair, and asked a fun q&a!

What inspires you? Kindness and service inspires me to reach more people, giving them a sense of peace of mind and feeling healthy and strong in their bodies.

Why the Chair Yoga Club?
The chair yoga club is enthusiastic, supportive and passionate about working with the elderly.

3 words to describe your teaching style?
My teaching style is Compassionate, nurturing and connection.

Why do you love working with the elderly ? It is important to me to make a difference in the lives of others and that is inclusive of all ages and abilities. Our elders hold such wisdom, stories and humour. They deserve the same care and nurturing as our youth.

What do you do in your spare time?
I walk my dog along the beach or in the woods, giggles and snuggles with my children , workouts, reading, yoga and meditation.

If you could have a super power what would it be?
I would love to fly! A higher perspective always calms the mind.

Why we use TheraBand's/ Resistance bands in our classes.

Resistance bands are large elastic bands that you can use to exercise all areas of the body. They can be good for people with limited mobility, as there are so many exercises that can be done while seated.

Therabands are especially useful in physiotherapy and rehabilitation. They offer resistance that activates the muscles and can be varied from very light to moderate intensity.

Elderly people often have mobility issues and joint paints that prevent certain movements to be performed with proper technique. They can also have huge differences in the strength of different muscle groups. Depending on the activities they’ve been doing their whole life.

Some muscle groups can be so weak that performing typical strength-building exercises is not possible until those muscle groups have been made active again. This is where TheraBand exercises shine.

They don’t stress your joints as much and the exercises can be specifically targeted to the muscle group that needs the most strengthening.

They are wonderful for building strength, flexibility and helping aid mobility!

Mind and body connection! Our attitudes, thoughts and feelings can actually have an impact on our physical wellbeing and health. This connection also works the other way, in that how we treat our body and our physical attributes can influence our mental health.

Being able to maintain a positive relationship with your mental and physical health is crucial to achieving overall wellbeing. In particular this can come from living a balanced life, including a healthy diet, regular exercise and plenty of sleep. Make sure you are grateful for the positive aspects of your life but deal with the negative ones too, and aim to have as positive an outlook as you can.
