Today’s distance Reiki session prompted me to reflect on something that feels really important to share.
When I work with an animal during Reiki, I never go into the session looking for a particular answer. I may have been invited into that space by their human, but once the session begins, the animal is my priority — their energy, their feelings, their experience and whatever they choose to communicate with me.
And sometimes, what they share isn’t what we expect to hear. Sometimes it isn’t what we want to hear either.
There may be messages that lead to difficult conversations, uncomfortable truths or decisions that need careful thought. That isn’t always easy for the person receiving the message — or for me delivering it.
But if an animal gives me something, I will give it to you as they gave it to me. With compassion, kindness and without judgement, but I won’t soften, change or sugarcoat their message simply because another answer might feel nicer.
This is also why I choose to communicate with animals during Reiki rather than offering animal communication as a standalone service. Reiki creates a gentle space where there is no pressure to answer our questions. They have free will to simply receive the Reiki, communicate, show me something physically or emotionally, or say very little at all.
It allows the session to be about them, rather than becoming a list of questions that we as humans want answered.
I may be acting on the instruction of their human, but my responsibility within that session is to honour the animal too.
Their feelings matter. Their boundaries matter. Their perspective matters. Their voice matters.
Sometimes their truth will reassure us. Sometimes it will make us smile or cry. And sometimes it may challenge what we thought we knew.
Whatever comes through, I will always do my best to ensure their voice is heard exactly as they have chosen to share it.
Because this work isn’t about protecting the human ego or giving the answer we hoped for.
It’s about giving our animals a voice — and being willing to truly listen when they use it. 💗🐴🐾
