MEN, WOMEN & BREAST CANCER — YES, WE’RE TALKING TO YOU!
Fancy coffee, cake, a good laugh AND talking to people who actually understand what you’ve been through?
No awkward explanations.
No pretending you’re “fine” when you’re absolutely not.
And no need to explain why the words “just a quick appointment” can strike fear into your heart! 😂
That’s Breast Friends York.
We’re a peer support group for people affected by breast cancer — bringing together people who have been through treatment themselves and understand the rollercoaster that comes afterwards.
We offer:
Coffee evenings — relaxed, friendly and with plenty of opportunity for a natter.
Lunch clubs — because sometimes the best therapy is food, laughter and people who get it!
Alternative therapies and opportunities to focus on YOU and your wellbeing.
Most importantly, peer support — the chance to meet others who have walked a similar path, swap experiences, have a laugh, ask questions, or simply spend time with people who understand without needing the whole backstory.
And here’s something we’re really keen to develop…
We support women. We support men.And whilst all our social events are open to everyone affected by breast cancer regardless of gender, sexual orientation or gender identity we’d love to offer some gender-specific support events too.
For example, perhaps women would like the occasional women-only get-together, while men might appreciate a chance to meet other men who have experienced breast cancer.
The problem? We need more male voices!
We don’t want to guess what men want or organise something that makes everyone think, “Erm… thanks, but absolutely not!” 😂
So, if you’re a man who has experienced breast cancer, we’d love to hear from you.
And you DON’T even have to join the group.
You could simply tell us:
• What would you find useful?
•What sort of social events would appeal to you?
•What would make you feel comfortable getting involved?
• What support do you wish had been available?
Your input could help us shape something that other men would genuinely value.
So, whether you fancy joining us, popping along for a coffee, or simply having a chat with us about what you’d like to see offered…
We want to hear from you.
Because peer support should be about what people actually need — not what we think they need.
And if that involves coffee, cake, lunch and the occasional slightly inappropriate joke along the way… even better.
We are Breast Friends York — bringing people together, one cuppa and one shared experience at a time.
Please share this post — especially with anyone you know who has experienced breast cancer. You never know who might need to find us.
