Documented habitat of Psilocybe serbica is located in the Dinaric karst mountain forests. To understand its vegetation, it is important to distinguish between pure or predominantly fir forests, mixed beech and fir forests, and spruce and other conifer forests in colder or wetter habitats.
The plant community consists not only of fir trees (Abies alba), but also of beech, shrubs, ground vegetation, mosses and fungi. Their composition depends on altitude, soil depth, exposure and humidity.
The floristic species composition of the Aremonio-Piceetum abietis association is uniquely defined by its ecological position. It merges acidophilic, boreal elements typical of northern coniferous forests with the Illyrian floristic components of the surrounding Dinaric beech-and-fir zones ✨
