❄️ Cold & Flu Season Is Here ❄️

Cold and flu season has arrived, but there are simple things we can all do to protect ourselves and the people we love this winter.

✅ Wash your hands regularly with soap and water
✅ Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow
✅ Let fresh air into your home by opening windows for a few minutes each day
✅ Stay home and rest if you are feeling unwell
✅ Drink plenty of water and eat healthy foods
✅ Get enough sleep to help your body fight infection
✅ Consider getting your flu vaccine if you are eligible

👶 Older people, young children, pregnant women and people with asthma or other health conditions can become seriously ill from respiratory infections, so it's important to take extra care.

❤️ Small actions can make a big difference.

Let's work together to reduce chest infections and help keep our families and community healthy this winter.

A Special Children's Book Worth Supporting

Many people in our community will know As Darragh Did, the charity established in memory of Darragh McGinley. We were very fortunate to receive funding from the charity, which helped our Active Age members enjoy a wonderful trip to Our Lady's Island during the summer.

We would like to pay that kindness forward by sharing news of a special children's book written by Andrew McGinley.

Prestin and the Bo**er Oath is a funny and imaginative adventure for children aged 8-12. Inspired by a comic created by Darragh, his brother Conor and their sister Carla, the story follows Prestin on a wild journey into a secret world hidden inside our noses. Expect mischievous boogers, plenty of laughs, and a mission to stop the biggest snot explosion the world has ever seen.

By purchasing the book, you'll not only be supporting a local Irish author, but you'll also be helping to keep the creativity, imagination and humour of Conor, Darragh and Carla alive through storytelling.

If you're looking for a fun read for a child in your life, please consider picking up a copy.

Alternatively, the book is also available through BuyTheBook.ie.

PICK THIS BOOK, NOT YOUR NOSE! 😊

Please be aware that tomorrow's public sector strike is expected to affect many services that people rely on every day. More than 300,000 public sector workers, including teachers, nurses, doctors, dentists and civil servants, are due to take part in the 24-hour strike.

Here's what this could mean for our community:

🏫 Schools Closed Most primary schools, secondary schools, colleges and universities are expected to be closed tomorrow. Parents may need to make childcare arrangements.

🏥 Health and Dental Services Disrupted Many hospital appointments, clinics and non-urgent procedures have been cancelled. Community health services are also expected to be affected. Emergency care, urgent cancer treatments and dialysis services will continue. GPs and pharmacies remain open.

📚 Public Services Limited Many local authority services and libraries may be closed or operating at reduced capacity. Government offices and public counters may also be unavailable.

🚗 Driving Tests Cancelled Anyone due to sit a driving test tomorrow should check their communications from the RSA, as scheduled tests have been cancelled.

👵 Check on Family and Neighbours Older people, people with disabilities, and those who rely on community services may find tomorrow particularly challenging. A quick phone call or visit could make a big difference.

✅ What is NOT affected? Public transport is expected to operate as normal, and Garda and emergency services will continue to be available.
