Today is World Menopause Day. This year's focus is chronic pain in midlife.
Joint aches and pains are a recognised symptom of menopause. Too often, they're brushed off as "just age".
Weight can be part of the picture too. Extra weight can place more load on joints like the knees. Research in people with obesity and knee osteoarthritis found that semaglutide treatment was associated with improvements in knee pain.
Semaglutide is a prescription medicine used for weight management in eligible people. It is not specifically approved to treat osteoarthritis, and treatment decisions should always be based on individual medical assessment.
Pain that limits your walks, your stairs or your sleep deserves to be taken seriously. It deserves recognition and evidence-based care.
