Halloween with type 1 diabetes doesn’t mean skipping the trick-or-treats! 🍬 It just means knowing your carb counts and being mindful of bolusing.

Halloween has always been my all time fav time of year. And as a kid I never gave up the fun of dressing up and trick-or-treating after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I’d count all my sweets at the end of the night and be VERY particular about which ones I was going to eat to fit my carb count 😂 Priorities, right?!

Whether you’re a parent of a T1D child or treating yourself, here’s a handy list of treat-size sweets and their approximate carb counts.

Just remember to check the packaging as sizes and carbs can vary.

When grief hits, type 1 diabetes takes a back seat. With all the heaviness that’s happening during this time, it’s so hard to focus on your chronic condition too.

I haven’t looked at these photos of my dad in over 3 years. I haven’t the heart to look at them. And when we had a recent family loss this year, there was double the grief.

I realised that in the overwhelm of it all - making funeral arrangements, supporting family and friends, making cups of tea and glasses of wh***ey - that managing yourself in it is just as important.

I don’t think we talk about it enough- how do we manage grief and how do you do it with a chronic condition. Grief doesn’t have a timeline and we all deal with it differently.

I wanted to share in my blog my own ways and experiences to help navigate grief with more self compassion, care for your T1D and give yourself time to find your feet again.

Even if I can support you in a few solace seconds. You can read it in my bio link Erin | Diabetes Health Coach or on my website www.crazyaboutdiabetes.com -> blog.

Sending love to anyone that’s going through this right now 💙💙💙 please tag someone who needs this

I had the opportunity to speak at the Abbott Diabetes Care facility in Kilkenny and share the human side of the technology.

Being there in person gave me an added layer of connection with my Libre systems sensor.

I shared my personal story of overcoming limits I once thought diabetes placed on me with a delegation of 27 EU member states visiting Ireland — and how this tech has opened the door to possibilities.

The biggest impact for me is the space it gives me.

Space to be present
Space to be me
Space to think about something other than diabetes

And that’s where my work as a diabetes health coach connects with this technology. I support the person beyond their numbers… the decisions, emotions, confidence and everyday experiences that come with managing diabetes.

Thank you to everyone at Abbott who welcomed me, and especially to all the people behind the technology I rely on every day.

Insulin keeps me alive. Technology helps me live my life ✨🌟💙
