Meet one of our plenary speakers for ISBA 2027: Senator Dr Tom Clonan!

Ability West is proud to host the International Short Break Association Conference in Galway from 22–24 June 2027.

As a disability rights advocate and parent, Tom will bring an important perspective to our theme: “Respite: A Bridge to Opportunity and Inclusion”.

Join people with lived experience, family carers, practitioners, researchers and policymakers to share ideas about what meaningful respite can make possible.

Call for abstracts: ISBA 2027 in Galway

Ability West is delighted to host the International Short Break Association Conference at the University of Galway from 22–24 June 2027.

We’d love to hear from people with lived experience, families, practitioners, researchers and organisations with ideas to share about respite and short breaks. Your contribution might be about a service that works well, a challenge you’ve faced, or a new way to support choice, friendship and community life.

You don’t need a finished presentation to apply. Just submit an abstract outlining what you’d like to share.

Ability West is proud to host ISBA - International Short Break Association 2027 in Galway

We are delighted to launch the Call for Papers for this international conference, bringing together voices from across research, practice, and lived experience.

At Ability West, we believe in creating opportunities for people to live full, meaningful lives in their communities. The ISBA 2027 Conference will explore how respite can be a bridge to opportunity, inclusion, and connection and supporting individuals and families at every stage of life.

We are now inviting submissions from:
- Researchers and practitioners
- Individuals and families with lived experience
- Community partners and organisations

Share your insights on innovation, inclusion, and real-life impact, and help shape the future of support systems.
