What does well-being mean?

It is not easy to formulate the concept of well-being because well-being is a broad term. In our everyday life, the idea of well-being has several general elements but also has a psychological meaning. Generally, if someone asks you what your well-being is, your mind will probably quickly find the shortest answer, and you say promptly: good. Or maybe you say: not good or not good enough. In fact, it takes time to think through your everyday life in order to find out your well-being in more detail. However, at least three major elements of well-being people commonly use. They are the physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

So, let's take the concept a little more specific. First, what is the state of your physical well-being? I mean, how is your fitness or how healthy are you in general? What is your average energy level? Another essential question is: How is your mental well-being? Do you aware of your potentials? How much stress is present in your life, and how hard is that for you to manage it? Or, what about your spiritual well-being? On a scale of 1-10, how happy are you? Did you find out what the purpose and meaning of your life are? What are your human relationships like?

We can also approach human well-being more scientifically. - Dr. Martin Seligman is underpinning in his book "Flourish" that we create our own happiness for ourselves using five elements in a term of "positive psychology". These five elements can all be valued separately: Positive Emotion, Engagement, Meaning & purpose, Positive Relationships, and Achievement. I will come back to this topic in another blog.

Generally saying, it's vital to love the person you are because that is the starting point to flourish your well-being. You should feel important and special. After all, there is one certain thing: you will live through your life with yourself. No exception! So please, appreciate your uniqueness and who you are!
