One small habit can influence the whole family. ❤️

Sometimes, parenting happens in the things they simply watch us do.

Don’t just SHOW children a concept. Let them EXPERIENCE it. ❤️

When teaching concepts like BIG & SMALL, LONG & SHORT, or HEAVY & LIGHT, real objects can make learning more meaningful.

Instead of only showing a picture or screen, give the child a BIG ball. Let them hold it, touch it, explore it and play with it.

Then introduce a SMALL ball and let them experience the difference. 🏀

When children can SEE + TOUCH + MOVE + EXPERIENCE, they get an opportunity to understand concepts through real-life experiences.

A simple reminder for parents and therapists:

✨ DON’T JUST SHOW IT. LET THEM EXPERIENCE IT. ✨

I didn’t know I meant this much to him… until his mother told me. ❤️

A few years ago, a little boy who came to me regularly for therapy was unwell and couldn’t attend his sessions for almost ten days.

When he returned, his mother told me that during those ten days, there were only two people he kept asking for — his grandmother and me.

That moment stayed with me.

Because it reminded me that sometimes, as therapists, teachers and parents, we become much more than just someone who teaches a child.

We become someone they feel safe with.
Someone they trust.
Someone they genuinely miss.

And that made me much more conscious of one thing: How does this child feel when they are with me?

Because beyond the skills we teach, the emotional connection we build can make a lasting difference in a child’s life. ❤️

Your child has the right to say NO. ❤️

Especially for children with special needs, communication is not just about answering questions, following instructions, or saying “yes.”

“I don’t want this.”
“Not this.”
“Stop.”
“I’m done.”

These are also meaningful ways of communicating.

Create safe opportunities for your child to refuse, reject, make choices, and express what they don’t want.

Because when we give children a voice, we teach them that their communication matters. ❤️

A little parenting moment from this morning. ❤️

I lost my patience for a moment… and what my daughter actually wanted to tell me made me realise how quickly we can sometimes react without knowing what our child is trying to say.

I apologised to her right then and there.

Because parenting isn’t about getting everything right all the time. We will make mistakes. What matters is that we recognise them, apologise, repair and reconnect.

We don’t have to be perfect parents. ❤️

“Don’t worry, your child will talk when he goes to school.”

Have you heard this before?

Yes, some children may catch up on their own. But some children may need support—and waiting doesn’t tell us which child will need intervention.

If your child is showing delayed speech or language development, don’t simply wait and hope. A timely consultation with a Speech-Language Pathologist can help you understand where your child is and what support may be needed.

When it comes to communication, early support matters. ❤️

Are we teaching children to communicate… or just teaching them to answer?

“What is this?”
“What is that?”
“What is the boy doing?”
“What did you eat?”

Questions have their place. But if every interaction becomes a test, we may miss something much more important — creating opportunities for the child to initiate communication.

Instead of opening the box for them, pause.
Let them ask.
Let them request.
Let them reject.
Let them ask for help.
Let them tell you what they want.

The goal isn’t just correct answers. The goal is meaningful, independent communication. ❤️

A reminder for both parents and therapists:
STOP TESTING. BUILD COMMUNICATION.

Speech therapy is NOT just about making a child talk! 🗣️

Before expecting more words, we may need to build the skills that make communication possible — attention, understanding, engagement, social interaction, sentence building and conversation.

So when you see a speech therapist playing with a child, remember: they’re building a better communicator, not just teaching words. ❤️
