AIIMS Guwahati Commences Gastroenterology OPD Services

Marking another significant milestone in expanding specialised healthcare services, AIIMS Guwahati commenced its Gastroenterology OPD services on 12th October 2026, under the able guidance and leadership of its Executive Director, Prof. (Col.) Dr. Ashok Puranik, and with the expertise of Dr. Shankar Roy (DM, Gastroenterology).

The new OPD service was formally inaugurated by the Executive Director in the presence of faculty members, residents, and staff of AIIMS Guwahati.
The inaugural day witnessed response, with 46 patients receiving consultations.

The introduction of Gastroenterology services marks another important step towards strengthening comprehensive and accessible tertiary healthcare at AIIMS Guwahati, particularly for patients requiring specialised care for gastrointestinal and liver-related disorders across Assam and the Northeast.

PG Refresher Course 2.0 at AIIMS Guwahati

The Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS Guwahati in collaboration with IAPSM , organised PG Refresher Course 2.0 on 8–9 October 2026 under the IAPSM Presidential Action Plan 2026, focusing on Competence, Confidence & Impact.

The programme aimed to enhance postgraduate medical education, professional competence and clinical confidence.

The programme was organized under the leadership and guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati.

🧹🌿 AIIMS Guwahati Concludes Swachhata Hi Seva 2026

AIIMS Guwahati observed Swachhata Diwas on 2 October 2026, marking the conclusion of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 Campaign.

More than 200 staff members participated in the campus-wide cleanliness drive, followed by a Swachhata Pledge and a plantation drive at the Herbal Garden.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati, highlighted the importance of cleanliness and hygiene in maintaining a safe healthcare environment.

Comdt. T. Ngamlien TM, Deputy Director, AIIMS Guwahati, emphasised the importance of daily cleaning, regular campus upkeep and preserving the Institute’s green spaces.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Biraj Chandra Paul, Nodal Officer, Swachhata Hi Seva 2026.

Guwahati, 1 October 2026: As part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 and the “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” initiative, AIIMS Guwahati organised a Special Cleanliness Drive with active participation from staff across different cadres.

The drive focused on clearing wild bushes and overgrown vegetation, cleaning drainage areas and removing water hyacinth to improve cleanliness and drainage in and around the Institute.

The initiative reflects the spirit of “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat” and AIIMS Guwahati’s continued commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment for patients, attendants, staff and the community.

In-house Blood Donation Camp at AIIMS Guwahati

On the occasion of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, the Department of Transfusion Medicine & Blood Centre, AIIMS Guwahati organised an in-house voluntary blood donation camp to promote the spirit of voluntary blood donation and community participation.

The camp was inaugurated by the Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati, who interacted with and motivated the donors, highlighting the importance of regular voluntary blood donation in ensuring a safe and adequate blood supply for patients in need.

The event witnessed an encouraging response, with 33 units of blood collected from voluntary donors.

The initiative reinforced the message that a few minutes of your time can give someone a lifetime of hope.

World Heart Day Celebration, 2026

World Heart Day 2026 Celebrated at AIIMS Guwahati, by The College of Nursing, AIIMS Guwahati, on 29th September, 2026 under the theme: “ʻDonʼt Miss a Beatʼ, raising awareness of the worldʼs number one killer and highlighting the importance of recognising the signs and symptoms of CVD”.

The programme was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati, and with the support and coordination of Prof. (Dr.) Unmona Borgohain Saikia, Principal, College of Nursing, AIIMS Guwahati.

On the occasion, the College of Nursing, AIIMS Guwahati, organised a public awareness programme focusing on recognising subtle signs of cardiovascular disease, promoting heart-healthy practices, and incorporating CPR awareness for timely response to cardiac emergencies. The celebration featured health education and role play focusing on prevention and early signs of CVDs along with demonstration and redemonstration of CPR by patients relatives.

The initiative reaffirmed AIIMS Guwahati’s commitment to promoting awareness about cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), their warning signs, prevention and global health burden.

एम्स गुवाहाटी में 'हिंदी पखवाड़ा-2026' का शानदार समापन! 🇮🇳

17 से 30 सितंबर तक चले इस पखवाड़े का आज भव्य समापन हुआ। डॉ. सुभाष चंद्र गुप्ता के स्वागत के बाद, कार्यकारी निदेशक प्रो. अशोक पुराणिक और उप निदेशक श्री टी. गामलियन ने राजभाषा के प्रशासनिक प्रयोग पर विशेष बल दिया।

कार्यक्रम का मुख्य आकर्षण शानदार 'कवि सम्मेलन' रहा, जिसने सभी को मंत्रमुग्ध कर दिया। साथ ही 28 सितंबर को हुई हिंदी कार्यशाला व विभिन्न प्रतियोगिताओं के विजेताओं को पुरस्कृत किया गया।

अंत में प्रशासनिक अधिकारी प्रशांत पुरकायस्थ ने उत्कृष्ट प्रबंधन के लिए 'हिंदी पखवाड़ा समिति' की विशेष सराहना करते हुए आभार व्यक्त किया।

AIIMS Guwahati Successfully Performs Complex Bilateral Carotid Artery Stenting

In a significant milestone in advanced stroke care, the Department of Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology, AIIMS Guwahati, successfully performed complex Bilateral Carotid Artery Stenting on a 66-year-old male patient with severe stenosis in both internal carotid arteries, resulting in recurrent strokes.
The successful procedure highlights AIIMS Guwahati’s growing capabilities in advanced neuro-interventional and vascular procedures, supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure including an Advanced Biplane DSA system, 3T MRI, and 128-Slice CT scanner.

AIIMS Guwahati has performed over 1,200 complex interventional radiology procedures, including endovascular coiling of brain aneurysms, flow-diverter placement for complex brain aneurysms, embolization of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), mechanical thrombectomy for stroke, and embolization of bleeding arteries.
Under the leadership of Executive Director, Professor Dr. Ashok Puranik, AIIMS Guwahati provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care involving Interventional Radiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuro-Anaesthesia, and Critical Care teams.

Routine diagnostic DSA services are provided free of charge, while advanced interventional radiology procedures are available cashless under Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) for eligible beneficiaries and at heavily subsidized rates for others.

With patients coming from Assam, the North-Eastern states, West Bengal, and neighbouring countries including Nepal and Bhutan, AIIMS Guwahati continues to strengthen access to advanced interventional radiology care in the region.

Nukkad Natak was Organized by the Dietetics Department under the guidance of Prof( Col) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati during the special observance of National Nutrition Month (Rashtriya Poshan Maah).
