International Patients Union A forum of patients committed to improving the state of healthcare across the world

International Patients Union (IPU) : Access , Affordability and Quality of healthcare is a serious challenge and is driven by suppliers, and regulators ( to some extent ) , but the patients have no say. Doctors are organised , industry is organised but the patients are not , and so, this association will organise the patients across the country . IPU will also help in forming patient groups across the country to help them learn from each other and better manage their disease conditions, besides providing information on diseases and treatment. We wish to undertake all activities that will make the healthcare system proactive and outcome driven. So far, the patients have no say in the policy making and with IPU , the patients will get a role in policy formulation and hence contribute to the betterment of healthcare

👀 Did you spot both patient-safety red flags?

Here’s why these two details matter more than they may seem:

🧪 1. Unlabelled blood sample
A blood sample should be correctly identified and labelled so it can be matched to the right patient. If identification is missed or incorrect, there is a risk of the sample being mixed up, results being assigned to the wrong person, or clinical decisions being made using incorrect information.

Why should patients know this?
Patients can check whether their name or identifying details are confirmed before or immediately after a sample is collected. Speaking up when something looks unclear is a simple but important safety step.

Why does it matter for healthcare professionals?
Correct patient identification and specimen handling are fundamental to preventing avoidable diagnostic and treatment errors.

💉 2. Exposed syringe/needle left on the tray
A used or exposed sharp should never be left casually in the care area. It can increase the risk of accidental needle-stick injury, contamination, and exposure to blood-borne infections.

Why should patients know this?
Patients should feel comfortable asking if they notice an exposed sharp near them or if something in the care environment appears unsafe.

Why does it matter for healthcare professionals?
Safe handling and immediate disposal of sharps helps protect the patient, healthcare worker and everyone else in the clinical environment.

Patient safety is not only about major procedures. It is often protected through small, consistent actions performed correctly every single time.

This World Patient Safety Day, remember: safer care begins when healthcare professionals follow safe practices and patients feel informed enough to ask questions.

Monsoon mood: chai, pakoras… and apparently a surprise fever too. See what’s in the line ▶️

Same fever, very different reasons. 👀
Don’t self-diagnose, get checked early.

Before you brave flooded roads and hospital queues, know when an online consultation can help and when it’s time to go in person 📲☔️

Save this for the next “yeah bas weather ki wajah se hai” moment
Share with someone who waits “way to long” before seeing a doctor.

💊 Medicines save lives but are they truly patient-driven?
From quality of generics to pricing, from clinical trials to self-medication—there are questions the system often avoids.

At IPUC 2026, we’re bringing these uncomfortable but critical conversations to the forefront.

Because responsible pharma isn’t just about innovation— it’s about transparency, trust, and putting patients first.
