The best moments with your child don’t always come from planned activities. 🤍

Sometimes, it’s sitting beside them with a book, building something together, listening to what they’re saying, or simply following their little world of play.

These everyday interactions give children opportunities to communicate, take turns, express themselves and connect with you.

And you don’t need hours for it. Start with a few intentional minutes each day and make it a simple part of your routine.

Watch the reel for one easy 10-minute activity plan you can try today. 🌱

They’re just playing… or are they? 👀

That puzzle, block tower, drawing session, or little balancing game is doing much more than keeping your child busy.

🧩 Puzzles → Problem-solving + visual skills
🎨 Drawing → Fine motor control + coordination
🧱 Building → Planning + hand-eye coordination
🧸 Pretend play → Imagination + communication
🪜 Active play → Balance + body awareness

Play isn’t a break from development. Play is part of development. ❤️

So the next time your child says, Come play with me, join them. You might be surprised by how much they’re learning along the way.

What does speech have to do with feeding? More than you might think. 🗣️🍽️

The jaw muscles and oral structures we use while speaking are also involved in important feeding skills like biting, chewing, and swallowing.

In Part 2, we’re looking at how Speech-Language Pathologists support children and adults with feeding difficulties, different food textures, chewing challenges, and swallowing difficulties.

An important part of therapy is also helping parents understand what they can continue practising at home, so that therapy becomes a part of everyday life.

If you notice concerns around speech, clarity, fluency, feeding, or swallowing, seeking professional guidance early can help address them at the right time.

Did you know speech therapy goes far beyond learning to talk? 🗣️

Speech-Language Pathology can support children and adults with speech and language development, pronunciation, fluency, stammering, and even feeding and swallowing difficulties.

In Part 1, we’re taking a closer look at the different areas covered by Speech-Language Pathology and why it is much more than just communication.

This is only the beginning, stay tuned for Part 2, where we’ll explore the important connection between speech and feeding.

Is it really stubbornness… or is your child trying to communicate something?

Sometimes, a toddler may cry, shout or throw things simply because they don’t have the words to express what they need.

“I’m hungry.”
“I’m hurt.”
“I want water.”
“I don’t know how to tell you.”

Before reacting to the behaviour, try to understand what your child may be trying to communicate.

If you notice frequent tantrums along with difficulty expressing needs, understanding language or using age-appropriate words, a professional developmental or speech-language assessment can help identify what’s really going on.

At 8 Senses Clinic, we help parents understand the underlying communication and developmental needs of their child.

Sometimes, better communication can begin with better understanding. ❤️

At home, my child talks so much… but at school, they don’t speak at all.”

If this sounds familiar, know that it may not be stubbornness or simply “shyness.” Some children find communication much harder in certain situations because of social anxiety or communication difficulties.

Instead of repeatedly asking, “Did you talk to your teacher?” or pressuring them to speak, try creating a safe space for communication. 💛

✨ Try role-play at home — play “teacher-teacher” or recreate classroom situations.
✨ Accept gestures, pointing and facial expressions as meaningful communication.
✨ Gradually encourage verbal communication without making the child feel pressured.
✨ If the difficulty continues, consider an expert assessment to understand what is holding your child back.

At 8 Senses Clinic, we help understand the why behind situation-specific communication difficulties and create an individualized therapy approach for your child.

Does your child pronounce the same word differently every time?

A child may say a word correctly once and then struggle to produce it the same way again. While occasional pronunciation errors can be part of speech development, consistent inconsistency may need professional evaluation.

One possible reason is Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), a neurological motor-planning disorder that can make it difficult for a child to coordinate the movements needed for speech.

Understanding the reason behind the speech difficulty is important. Instead of assuming that a child is being careless, stubborn, or “making mistakes on purpose,” parents should consider a professional assessment by a qualified Speech-Language Pathologist.

At 8 Senses Clinic, specialized pediatric speech-language evaluations and therapy can help identify speech difficulties and guide parents toward appropriate intervention.
