What kept me safe at 16 kept me stuck at 26 and 36.

Being gay doesn't mean you're broken. It means we adapted, and some of those adaptations were brilliant.

A lot of us put up walls. They worked. But the walls that kept you safe are now the walls keeping people out, and they're still up because nobody taught you how to connect without them.

Different is not the same as wrong.

Ever written a guy off on sight, then he turned out to be lovely? What changed your mind?

22/10/2026

I was scared of the other boys. Gym class, the schoolyard, being told to go play with them, like that.

It said, without saying it, that I needed to be different than I was. A lot of gay kids get that message early.

You get self-conscious. You start monitoring yourself. You become hypervigilant. And the play disappears.

Be honest: when did you stop playing?

I've said I want an emotionally available man, then dated men who were anything but.

Standards are the list in your head. Boundaries are what you do when someone doesn't meet it. How fast you leave, what you say no to, what you refuse to tolerate.

One costs you nothing. The other costs you something every time.

Be honest: which one are you running on?

What's one thing you loved doing as a kid that you quietly stopped doing as an adult?

15/10/2026

Too tired for that thing. Not too tired for this one.

Tiredness is honest when it's consistent. It's an excuse when it's selective, and the real reason is avoidance, fear, or hoping something better comes along.

Ever been liked by everyone and chosen by no one?

Some guys think Heated Rivalry is a gift from the gay gods, the best
thing that's ever happened in gay media. For others, it induces rage.

My take: it's become this popular because it taps into fantasies a lot
of gay men have that never got fulfilled.

It's a fantasy fulfilment episode. Catnip for the emotionally tortured
gay heart. And you can take your pick of which story it's hitting.

I love my freedom.

What I've learned, though, is that support does feel good — if I let it
be there. Intimacy does feel good, if I can get past the fear of
vulnerability. Connection does feel good, even with the risk involved in
going out and finding it.

Because here's what happens if I stay in my independence.

Think of it as a castle. I'm in this beautiful castle. It's gorgeous.
I've got everything I need in here.

But I'm all alone in it. And it turns into a quiet loneliness.

Anyone": Why Gay Men Struggle to Let Someone In.

How I finally learned to listen to my body, after 30+ years of ignoring it 👇

1️⃣ Talk to your body like it’s someone you have a relationship with. I actually talk to mine. It makes it a two-way conversation instead of me just giving orders.
2️⃣ Notice your yeses and nos. When someone asks me to do something, I can feel it in my body: a sense of expansion means yes, contraction means no.
3️⃣ Stop saying yes on autopilot. If someone offers me another drink, my body goes, “No, Michael. You don’t, honey.” I listen to that instead of saying yes because everyone else is.
4️⃣ Rest when it asks. Some nights my body says bed at 9pm. We don’t argue. We go.
5️⃣ Make self-care part of how you live. I walk or bike everyday, and my water bottle is always full. These aren't things I have to think about doing anymore. They're just part of how I live now.

“Listen to your body” used to be just a saying to me. Now I get what it means. I don’t always get it right, but I do a much better job than I used to.
Do you listen to yours, or do you ignore it?
