Pap smear or HPV test… what’s the difference?

They’re both used for cervical cancer screening, but they’re looking for different things.

A Pap smear looks for abnormal or precancerous changes in the cells of the cervix.
An HPV test looks for high-risk types of HPV - the virus responsible for most cervical cancers.

And importantly, a positive HPV test does NOT mean you have cervical cancer. It means high-risk HPV has been detected and your doctor will advise you on the appropriate next step.

Swipe through as we break down:
• What each test checks for
• Pap smear vs HPV testing
• What a positive HPV result means
• When screening is recommended
• Current Jamaican screening guidelines 🇯🇲

✨ HPV testing is now available at Talawa Health!

Breastfeeding is more than just food. 💛

It provides nutrition, protection and comfort for baby, while offering important benefits for mom too. But breastfeeding is also about closeness, nurturing and connection.

For the first 6 months, exclusive breastfeeding is recommended-meaning breast milk only, unless otherwise medically advised. From around 6 months, appropriate complementary foods can be introduced while breastfeeding continues.

And while breastfeeding is natural, it does not always come naturally or easily. Difficulty latching, pain or concerns about milk supply are reasons to ask for help early. The right support can make a difference.

Every breastfeeding journey is different.

Support mothers. Support babies. Support breastfeeding. 💚💛

This isn’t a typical receptionist job. 💜

At Talawa Health, the person at the front desk is an important part of the care our patients receive. You’re often the first voice they hear, the first person they meet, and one of the people they trust with their personal information.

We’re looking for someone who is kind, professional, honest, dependable and discreet. Someone who treats every patient with dignity and respect, understands the importance of confidentiality, pays attention to the details, and has the initiative to see what needs to be done - and get it done.

Most importantly, we want someone who shares our passion for top-tier healthcare, women’s health and patient education, and who wants to contribute to an environment where women feel welcomed, respected and well cared for.

You’ll work alongside an experienced receptionist, learn our systems and processes, and be expected to grow into someone who can confidently help keep the office running smoothly.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

Why Are We Checking That? 🤔 | BLOOD PRESSURE — Part 2

So you know we check your blood pressure at every antenatal visit- but what do those two numbers actually mean?
And when should you be concerned?

In Part 2, we go a little deeper. 💜

We’re talking about:
• What the top and bottom numbers mean
• When blood pressure is considered high in pregnancy
• What pre-eclampsia is
• Warning signs you should know
• And why you can’t always rely on how you feel

One of the most important things to remember? You can have high blood pressure - and even pre-eclampsia - without feeling unwell.

Know your numbers. Know the warning signs. Keep your antenatal visits.

That’s why we keep checking.
