Meaningful change in mental health care begins when we move beyond speaking about people and start listening to them. Centring lived experiences means recognising the people behind the statistics, valuing their voices, and acknowledging that those who navigate mental health challenges hold invaluable knowledge about what care, support, and recovery should look like.
How can we redefine mental health care and support without listening to the people at the heart of it? How can we build more compassionate, inclusive, and accessible systems if the voices and experiences of those most affected are left out of the conversation?
This World Mental Health Day, let us commit to creating spaces where every voice is heard, every experience is valued, and lived experiences inform meaningful change. Because mental health care should be shaped with people, not just for them.
