The standard medical advice is that you are "cleared for intimacy" 6 weeks after giving birth. But just because your cervix is closed and your stitches are healed does NOT mean you are physically or emotionally ready!
Returning to intimacy postpartum is often fraught with anxiety, pain, and fear. Your body has endured massive trauma, your hormones are crashed, and if you are breastfeeding, your estrogen is extremely low, leading to severe vaginal dryness.

Because of low estrogen, your natural lubrication will be drastically reduced. Use a high-quality, water-based lubricant generously to prevent painful micro-tears.
Many women subconsciously clench their pelvic floor out of fear of pain, which actually causes more pain (vaginismus).
Intimacy does not have to mean pe*******on. Focus on physical connection without pressure.
If it hurts, stop. Pain during s*x after birth is common, but it should not be accepted as your "new normal." Pelvic floor physical therapy and localized estrogen can heal you.
