A Tribute of Gratitude to Nature on this Blessed Esala Poya Day... ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฅฅ

On this sacred Esala Full Moon Poya day, we initiated a very special task at our Weda Asapuwa (Healing Ashram).

As a gesture of gratitude to the mother tree that has provided us with precious King Coconuts (Thambili) for so long to prepare our medicinal oils and heal patients, we decided to plant a new king coconut seedling in our ashram premises today. Just as we reap the benefits of a tree, it is our duty and a cherished traditional Hela custom to give back to nature.

These pictures show the steps of preparing that new plant for rooting. A well-matured, sprouting king coconut is selected and soaked in water before planting. This process helps the roots grow more successfully. Looking up at the giant king coconut tree that has given us so many resources fills our hearts with immense respect and gratitude.

On this noble Poya day, make a determination to do a good deed that shows your love and gratitude to the environment. Plant at least a small sapling.

Wishing you all a blessed Esala Poya day and perfect health! ๐Ÿ™

Mysterious "Horned Lizard" (*Ceratophora cornuta*) Found in the Cold Forests of Nuwara Eliya

Our island is a wonderful country full of biodiversity.

While visiting a forest area in Nuwara Eliya the other day, I came across an extremely rare and beautiful animal species that is endemic to Sri Lanka.
That is the **Sri Lankan Horned Lizard**

In English, they are called **"Rhinoceros-horned Lizard"**,

and scientifically known as ***Ceratophora cornuta***.

Scientific information and features.

*Scientific name: Ceratophora cornuta

*Climate regions:

Wet and cold forests of the central mountains above 1500 meters above sea level (e.g. Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains, Sri Pada site).

*The "horn" at the end of the mouth:

They have a clearly visible horn-like appendage (rostral appendage) at the tip of their nose. This horn in males is longer than in females.

*The ability to change color:

To adapt to the environment (Camouflage), they can change their body color to light green, brown or similar to the color of moss-covered trees.

The mission they receive from the ecosystem,

In local Ayurveda and ecology, the balance of nature is considered very important.

* They help **control the insect population** by eating small insects, boarding snakes and other small animals living in the forest.

* They also act as **bio-indicators** that measure the harmony of the environment and the health of the forest.

โš ๏ธ The challenge before us and the responsibility to protect it.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed these horned lizards as an "Endangered"** species.

To save these animals for our future generations:

> 1. Deforestation and ecosystem destruction must be prevented.

> 2. The use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides must be minimized.

> 3. Illegal trapping and trafficking of animals must be strictly controlled.

Nature is our greatest gift.

We are proud that such mysterious, exotic animals are the only ones in our country. Protecting the environment is our ultimate responsibility !

Our Hela Food: Delicious Jackfruit Black Coconut Fish ๐ŸŒฟ

Hello my dear friends,

There is nothing more valuable in this world than our Hela food culture, which is tied to the forest.

Only those who have tasted our old Hela dishes know how divine the taste of a dish when a jackfruit fish is added to rice.
Today I will tell you about the correct Hela method of preparing 'Jackfruit Black Coconut Fish', which was a staple food of our ancestors and is like an elixir for the body.

To make this delicious curry, I am using our,
spices harvested from the garden of the Veda Asapu and prepared cleanly before the aroma goes away,
as well as pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, curry and rampe grown without poison, and for the tempura, I am using some pure orange oil that I have prepared with our own hands.
When these things are combined, the taste and quality of the food doubles.

The hidden medicinal properties of jackfruit seeds and black coconut fish.
Our ancestors got strength like iron from eating this kind of food. ๐Ÿ“

* Energy and protein:
Jackfruit seeds are a food rich in plant protein, iron and complex carbohydrates. It is a herb that is said to build the body for someone who does not eat meat.

* The health of spices:
The fresh pepper, cardamom and cinnamon that we add cut the body's fat. It makes food digestion very easy.

* Good for the heart:
This fish, which is made by sauteing it in pure orange oil and adding a piece of goraka, also helps burn harmful fat (cholesterol) in the body.

๐Ÿฅฃ How to make jackfruit seeds and black coconut fish in the Hela way.

Ingredients: -

* 25-30 well-ripened jackfruit seeds (peeled and cleaned)

* For frying: 4 tablespoons grated coconut, 1 tablespoon white uncooked rice

* Veda Asapuwa spices: 1 teaspoon peppercorns, 3 cardamoms, 3 cloves, a cinnamon stick, 2 teaspoons mustard

* 2 teaspoons chili powder and 1 teaspoon thunapaha powder

* Fresh rampe and curry leaves harvested from Veda Asapuwa.

* A few chopped red onion, garlic and green chilies.

* A piece of Goraka

* 1 cup of thick coconut milk

* A little pure orange oil for the tempura

* Salt to taste

How to prepare: -

1. Boiling jackfruit seeds:** First, place an earthen pot on the stove, add a little water to the cleaned jackfruit seeds and boil them for a while (or put them in a mortar and crush them a little).

2. Making the black coconut mixture (this is where the secret lies):** Place another pan on the stove, add the grated coconut, white raw rice, mustard, black pepper, cardamom, cloves and cinnamon stick to it. Dry roast all this without oil until it turns a dark brown color. Then grind it in a stone or blender and make it powder.

3. Tempura:
Place an earthen pot on the stove, add a little **orange oil** to it. When the oil is hot, add the turmeric, curry leaves, onion, garlic and green chillies and fry until fragrant.

4. Cooking the fish:
Now add the boiled jackfruit seeds to this tempura. At the same time, add the chili powder, turmeric powder, salt and washed goraka pieces and mix well.

5. Adding milk and black coconut:** ๐Ÿฅฅ
Finally, add the coconut milk and ground black coconut powder mixture and cook on low heat until it is well combined.

The aroma of spices will spread throughout the kitchen! ๐Ÿ˜‹

Once you have this jackfruit fish with a plate of hot rice, you don't need anything else, children. Make this Hela food for your family today and gift them with health.

May the gods bless you all! Have a healthy day!

Hello... โœ๏ธ

The idea to write this note came to Vedamahattaya when he was sitting on a branch of a twenty-foot-tall betel tree in the middle of a dense forest.

Enjoying a wonderful freedom. As I climbed up barefoot, touching the rough bark of the tree, I saw our cat friend looking at me from below, and I had wonderful thoughts about our past.

As I climbed up a tree, picked this juicy young betel nut and put it in my mouth, I thought about how we used to live. ๐Ÿ“

Our first 'relaxation' in that past, when we farmed henna, ate wild fruits, and jumped from tree to tree ๐Ÿ™‰

I felt like I woke up for a moment. As humans, our true home was this dense forest and the trees, wasn't it? ๐ŸŒฟ

Our own strength that was moving away from us.

Given how much the health of people in our society has deteriorated, how many people can climb a tree like this today?

For our bodies, which are confined to vehicles, chairs, and concrete walls, it is a big challenge to climb a tree while hugging it.

Back then, our ancestors climbed these treetops without any illness or pain because their food, drink, and lifestyle were intertwined with nature.

A happiness that money cannot buy.

No matter how much money and vehicles there are in this world... Can you buy that feeling of climbing a tree and picking a wild fruit with your own hands and putting it in your mouth when it's fresh?"

No!

That's what I'm saying... ..

Some feelings in this world are expensive. That innocent, free feeling cannot be experienced in an artificial world even if you pay crores.

Ceylon Olives are a wonderful herb.

As a Veda, I cannot fail to mention the properties of this wild fruit:

*Cooling the body:

Ceylon Olives are a wonderful fruit that regulates body temperature (regulates bile) according to Ayurveda.

*Improves immunity:

The high amount of vitamin C contained in it gives the body the ability to fight diseases.

*Digestion:

Since it is rich in natural fiber, it cleanses the intestines and makes digestion easier. Do it.

If you can, this weekend, get away from your busy life and get closer to nature.

Take off your shoes and let some soil on the ground. That day, you will understand where the true happiness and health of life lies.

May you receive the blessings of nature! ๐ŸŒฟ

20/07/2026

Hello !

Today I am writing this post to remind you of a wonderful resource that has fallen in our yard, but which we have forgotten.

This article was inspired by a sight I saw this morning.

In the middle of a patch of grass in the garden, on one side is a young polos fruit, on the other side is a ripe jackfruit and on the other side is a ripe waraka fruit.

In the middle of it, our mother cat is sleeping very freely while nursing her kitten.

Also, the bees and insects that have come to the smell of those sweet waraka buds are telling us about the wonderful balance of our nature.

Son, do you know how much more goodness is hidden in the fruit of the "rice tree" growing in our garden than the apples and grapes we buy from the store today ?

Each stage of the jackfruit tree is like each stage of human life,
and is a valuable pharmacy that provides our body with different nutrients.

1. Young Polos (the baby full of medicinal properties)

Polos is the baby stage of the jackfruit. According to Ayurveda, Polos is a wonderful food that balances the air and nourishes the body. It is an old custom of ours to give Polos sour to pregnant and lactating mothers, especially.

Polos is very beneficial for anemia because it is rich in iron.

2. Fermented Jackfruit (the youth who quenches hunger)

A well-fermented jackfruit is our Sinhalese's "rice tree".

This jackfruit tree saved our nation during times of famine in the past. The complex carbohydrates found in it provide long-term energy to the body. Also, since it is rich in fiber, ripe jackfruit can cleanse the digestive system and relieve constipation.

3. Waraka and Vala (Golden Ripe Fruit)

When the jackfruit ripens, it becomes a sweet fruit. Waraka has a thick pulp and Vala has a soft pulp.

These ripe fruits contain a lot of vitamin A and vitamin C. Waraka is very good for improving eyesight and brightening the skin.

Also, the natural sugar (Fructose) in it provides instant energy.

As you can see in the picture, even animals love that natural sweetness so much.

๐Ÿ’ก

Let our children practice the taste and quality of these local foods. There is nothing more valuable than these fruits that are free from poison and grow in our own soil.

But remember, people with medical conditions like diabetes should be careful when eating waraka and vala, because their sugar content is quite high.

This weekend, look at the jackfruit tree in your garden with some love.

The freedom and comfort that the kittens sleeping under that tree get, the fruits of that tree also provide for our lives.

Get closer to nature, live healthy ๐ŸŒฟ
